Okay, stupid question time: Engine swap

The search function is giving me no information particular to my question (yet again). I'm wondering how much is required for a phase II 2.5 swap into a '93 legacy. I would love to be able to keep all of the 2.2 engine management with the 2.5 block and heads, but I'm not sure how realistic this really is. Will the 2.2 intake manifold even bolt up to the phase II 2.5? I know this all must sound like complete insanity...

Run the 2.2 heads and intake manifold on the 2.5 block. It will all bolt right on and run fine on the 2.2 ecu.

As stated by others...Subies are like Legos...w/some gotchas. Phase 1 2.2 ('90-98) and 2.5 ('96-98) Intake Manifolds are not compatible w/the Phase 2 2.2/2.5. The wiring would be a PITA, if even possible, to run the 2.5 'as is' w/the 2.2.
I'd also do some search on 'frankenmotor/frankenstine' or similar as that's what speedmax is proposing.
Another good resource is the Ultimatesubaru.org/forum for info about swapping this/that/and the other.

Thanks for the input! Is there a reasonable camshaft available for the 2.2 heads (assuming the phase II 2.5 cam cannot be used) or is all the torque acquired from the actual displacement increase?

Delta cams has a 'street grind' for about $100 per side. Should get you close to 2.5 torque.

Is this with the 2.5 block or with just the 2.2 displacement?

Though I never did it, I was planning a Frankenmotor swap into my old Legacy doing what speedmaxx described: 2.2 heads on a 2.5, all the original wiring and engine management.
One thing you'll have to keep in mind though: 2.2 heads on a 2.5 shortblock will increase the compression ratio quite significantly, to where you probably won't want to run anything but high-test fuel in it.

Not sure I understand, but you could put the Delta Cams in the 2.2 or 2.5 heads.....although I don't know if Delta does cams for the Phase 2 2.5...but most likely they do.

Can the Delta cams achieve the torque levels of the Phase II 2.5 on a 2.2 engine or would they need to be installed in a frankenmotor to achieve this kind of torque?
