Last night my gf's car and my car got broken into and a bunch of important and expensive stuff was stolen. So i've decided it's time to get a good alarm system. I have no idea what's a good brand or anything like that. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I haven't looked recently, but Clifford is what I would recommend. http://www.clifford.com

They've been in the business for a long time. The alarms have a decent amount features and they have a theft guarantee if it's installed by an authorized dealer.

When I lived in Seattle, Car Toys was the place that did the install of my alarm. They did an ok job. I later found that they wired the starter interupt incorrectly, so the car would start, even with the alarm on. I fixed that.

However, despite all the fancy alarms, the best suggestion I can give you is to not leave anything visible in your car. Another option you can look into is to install a red blinking light on the dash or something. Most criminals are going to go for something easy, and something without an alarm. If you have a red blinking light, they don't know it's just a red blinking light and not an alarm, so they'd likely move on to something else.

Lol. Its funny you mentioned the red blinking light cause mine does have one from the factory security system. But but I'll have to look into that Clifford system. The ppl that broke into my car also left my doors open all night and now I gotta soak all the rain water up.

i have a Viper unit in my car, it's got alot of nice features too... but i didn't wire those up. I only wired up what was important.

If you're installing yourself, you can find vehicle wiring diagrams at http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/bdnew/ve ... agrams.asp

installation can take awhile 2-6 hours. first time i put an alarm in my car it took me about 4 hours w/ a cheap ass ebay alarm. then i upgraded to a different alarm, and then to a viper.
