Questions: Upholstery Headliner & Manual seatbelts

Now that I have my interior trim/headliner out for the sunroof leak fixes I'm trying to knock out some projects.

First being the the headliner upholstery, visiting http://www.garysupholstery.com/Enduratex-armada.html, I found and requested a few samples already (Perfect Storm - ARM-113-M, Mystic - ARM-111-M, Atlantic Mist - ARM-100-M) should be in by Monday to compare but still trying local shops as I want to redo the headliner while its out. Has anyone found a near match of fabrics to the stock ss? My is from a 92, shares the same gray headliner with the 93 ss.

Second, I have the manual belts and trims pieces needed but read some time ago that the stock USA headliner will show gaps. Others have simply left the automatic rails/trim in not wanting to deal with finding a Canada headliner. I plan on picking up a junkyard liner, use it for filling those gaps by epoxy molding then re-upholstery. Does anyone have some pictures of the spots where the gaps would show so i could use as reference?

Thanks

You can see some of the pictures with the stock trim pieces out towards the bottom of this page.

The holes for the oh shit handles and the notches in the headliner are likely what will show. The other thing to note is that the auto seat belt head liner flares out to allow room for the auto seat belt rails. You would need to eliminate this some how, and I'm not sure just smooshing it will work too well. If you could find an upholstery shop that would make you a new headliner board using your old one as a template and tweak it, that may work.

This is what your headliner will look like with canadian trim panels.

Here's some pics comparing the headliners. The USDM headliner has particle board backing (crap) and the canadian headliner has much stronger plastic backing.

Josh, from your pictures did you modify your stock trim to work with the manual belts by using the UK trim as templates on where to cut?

kimokalihi, were there any gaps where the dome light, sun visors installed? thanks for the pictures as I drooled over that headliner lol

Yes I modified the stock trim pieces to work with the manual belts. I used a combination of methods, but only had my US trim pieces and the Canadian trim pieces. Here's my conversion thread:

http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=41584

I used the Canadian lower B-pillar trim piece, but other than that, used all the US trim pieces.

The key pieces to make the conversion work are the seat belt bolt and spacer from a Mazda Miata and the Canadian lower B-pillar trim piece.

If you have any specific questions on how I did what I did, let me know.

No gaps around the dome light or visors.

Well I got the headliner upholstery done, drain lines cleaned and the sunroof rails sealant drying. I'll make sure it doesn't leak this week before playing with the trim and manual belts.

Prayer to all this I got my sunroof control module working again too. Hopefully all this work will pay off.
