So I purchased a 92 Legacy Sport Wagon yesterday. It has an auto, which has no reverse. I have a 5MT from a 90 Legacy N/A Wagon that I scrapped. I am fairly certain the code is a 752 series with A1AA at the end. I'm also fairly certain that it has FD of 4.111. Obviously, the Legacy Sport has FD of 3.90. So This is the rough draft of parts I need to for the swap. Let me know what you think and if I'm missing anything.

Front axles for a 90 Legacy N/A Wgn

A rear end from a 90 Legacy N/A Wgn(4.111 FD)

Clutch Pedal assy from 90 Legacy N/A Wgn (cable clutch)

Clutch(aftermarket) and Flywheel for 90 Legacy N/A (or Turbo? shouldn't be different, right?)

Drive shaft from pretty much any Legacy Wgn Manual.

Manual Transmission Mounts for any first gen legacy manual.

Drive line just has to be from a manual Legacy, sedan and wagon share wheel base. Axles, I'm like 99.9% sure they are the same between auto and manual so those should be fine. And the rear diff. can be from either a sedan or wagon as long as the FD is right.

The drivelines are different between the MT & AT cars.

I'd suggest checking out mine and Dave's write-ups. Dave did basically what you're doing, but with the hydro clutch setup. I did the 5MT & AWD swap, but a lot of the info is still good. Take a look at these and post back with any specific questions you may have.

actually, the flywheels are different between the NA and the Turbo. the turbo Transmission is the same as most subaru Turbo cars. it uses a wrist pin throw out fork type deal, instead of just pivoting on a point, and of course the hydraulic clutch set up.

you can do this swap just get the NA flywheel, NA pressure plate, and NA clutch, NA throw out bearing, NA Clutch fork. as well as cable clutch and NA trans.

So will a manual drive shaft from a 2nd gen legacy fit in my 92? I'm to the point that I am ready to start buying parts, but I need to find all the parts for a reasonable price. I was planning on using a cable clutch pedal assy from a legacy since the trans I have is from a cable clutch N/A '90 legacy. So I was going to get a flywheel and clutch setup for that trans.

Also, kind of off topic but, when I went to go make sure the fuel pump was bad the other day, I went to go turn the key on and crank the car (to see if the pump primes or if I need to look into the FPR) but It wouldn't turn over, everything acted like it was ready but no click or anything suggesting that it tried to turn over. The shift is disconnected from the trans since its supposedly "frozen" The trans is in neutral. So I'm thinking that there is another safety switch in the trans that wont let it start til its in park. The only thing that threw me for a loop was the sound it made in the steering column when I put the shifter in park(kind of like the safety switch disengaging.

Any thoughts? Anyone have some of the parts I need? Got cash waiting.

Yes the drive shaft from the 2nd gen Legacy should work. You just need to make sure the flange on the differential matches the drive shaft. If not, you can replace the flange on the differential.

Regarding the not starting, you mentioned the shifter was disconnected from the transmission. What position was the transmission in when it was disconnected? The car won't start unless the inhibitor switch in the transmission is in Park or Neutral. You can jumper pins 11 & 12 together on the trans B15 connector to bypass the inhibitor switch. I would not recommend starting the engine if you think the trans is frozen/locked up.

All the info regarding the electrical stuff is in my swap write-up. You'll need to review that so you can get everything working properly after swapping the mechanical components.

Got it to turn over. Wasnt getting power to the fuel pump, jumpered the relay, it gets power but the pumps dead. I have a warlboro im going to put in. I also may be able to pick up a 95 Legacy L for $300. Its a manual and is complete. Will the driveshaft as well as all the other swap stuff work on my first gen?

Yes I believe the driveshaft should work. The suspension stuff & subframe should work. The rear diff bushings are in the rear subframe vs being on a separate plate, but they should still work. I'm not sure about the gas tank....I think it'll work, but can't confirm that. You'll also need the fuel separator tank, and I'm not sure if the 2nd gen has the same one and same fittings.

Im swapping a auto awd car to a manual awd. why do i need the tank?

Where is the fuel pump? It has an external pump? Kinda confused at the moment and having trouble finding anything about it

The fuel pump is in the fuel tank. There are access panels to get at the pump and senders just behind the rear seats.
