Hey guys my buddy has a 05 gt trany, the price is right so I am going with it, only issue is the electronic speed sender unit needs to be converted to a mechanical setup by cracking the case and inserting the gear, What would be the best speedo gear to use to match the my 94 TW? any charts for this, thanxs in advance.

you can probly get the right piece from the dealer. or use GPS...

i was gonna say, i might have another transmission this fall. but not sure how long you wanna wait. i have the peddles and the hydraulic stuff out of the red car if you need to swap into your 94 TW.

You can't go without it. That's where the ECU gets it's speed reading from and without it your car will be in limp mode. It will hit fuel cut at very low boost and the check engine light will probably come on.

little reading on other threads on rs25 and nasioc, i realized i need the speedo gear for a 4.11 tranny, now i am wondering what sensor itself to use.

Are the speedo gears in the tranny's actually different depending on what FD ratio the trans is? I've always wondered that. People swap transmissions and rear diffs all the time with different FD ratios and nobody ever mentions their speedo being off but my 4.444 forester trans is way off. At 100 mph on my speedo I'm really only doing 90mph. It's pretty annoying.

are the sensors on the manual and auto the same part?

hey its an older threaad but i was wondering how things went?

i am installing a 03 impreza TS trans into my 93 legacy turbo... 5MT / same final drive etc.

so i am assuming i will need to open the trans case and install a mechanical speed sensor sending unit - is this what you did? any tips? should just get it out of the old one or get a new one to go in?

got my trans... just need the clutch stuff and its going in

I ended up getting a 04 forester xt 4.44 trans, that I don't have to crack open, I will look around to see where I read up doing the mechanical speedo gear install.
