Oil Pump

Any of you guys ever replace the oil pump on a 2.2L legacy?

Dealer wants $450 or so.

How major is the task? Can a guy do it himself with your average box
of hand tools?

My 93 Touring Wagon is dripping on the garage floor.

Thanks,
Carl

are you sure it's the oil pump and not the oil seals? Is it a turbo or
non-turbo?

Jason: Touring Wagon = Turbo :D

It's not likely the pump, but either/and/or the camshaft seals and
the oilpump seal.

It's not a terribly hard job, but it's one probably left to a
warratied shop at least, not necessarily the dealership. See if you
can find a local subaru-friendly place.

While they're in there, you might look hard at a new timing belt and
water pump as well.

It is a turbo and it may only be the seals.

RRUN Racing debuts in Rally of the Ranchlands
~
VANCOUVER, BC - RRUN Racing will be making their debut at the Rally of the
Ranchlands ( formerly known as Calgary Winter Rally) in Cochrane, Alberta
on March 25, 2001. This will be the first of six events of the Western
Canadian Rally Championship Series.
RRUN Racing is a Vancouver-based rally team and this will be the launch of
their rally car, a 1992 Subaru Legacy Turbo. The Rally car houses a
roll-cage custom built by one of the best designers in BC, Byron Meston
of C&B Performance Parts. “This is probably my best work.” says Byron.
RRUN Racing is running Tein type HR suspension, the same suspension used by
FIA Pro Rally teams in Asia. Support comes generously from A&J Racing, RRUN
VNI, Toyo
Canada and OK Tire Main St Vancouver.
“We are very excited about this race. The rally car is running great. We
look forward to the great competition from the Alberta teams “, says Mark
Ward, Driver for RRUN Racing. The event will consists of 14 Special Stages
covering over 200km of snow, ice, and gravel. Special stages are where the
teams will battle the clock to record the fastest time between start and
finish of each stage. These Special stages are held on roads, which will be
closed to public use. “ I can’t wait to hit the roads! This will be an
exciting year for us. We’ve got a fast car that handles great and Mark is
one of the most disciplined drivers in BC.”, says Ken Kwong, co-driver for
RRUN Racing.
“We have done lots of preparation on the car and will continually assess
areas we need to improve on to be able to consistently finish in the top of
each race.”, says Mark. The team’s goal is to capture the Western Canadian
Rally Championship for 2001. This will mean the team is going to be fully
committed to the Western Canadian Rally Championship series.
Team information and updates can be found on the team website at
www.rrunracing.com.

Carl-I had my oil pump resealed by the dealer for about $250 a few years ago & it leaked almost immediately. Went back, they applied some credit towards a new pump for about the same total $; has`nt leaked since. Try Subaru parts or Teague`s or something as $450 is a screwing without lubrication. BTW, my Dis-2 (MSD) is on & what a difference! I`ll start toying with increased plug gaps & top end retard setting s for the best results after my weeks vacation. Talk to you all soon. ROD
