Hey guys I have a buddy that just got a JDM swap for his 99 RS and he is selling the tranny and diff and such.
I know I will need the tranny and rear diff so i have matching ratios. What else will i need to make this work on my 91 SS? Can I use my new clutch I just bought or do I need to buy one for the RS? Is the RS tranny stronger than our stock one?

This is pretty much my only option at this point for a tranny since mine blew up last night and I need it fixed ASAP. Thanks ahead of time

Need the RS clutch/flywheel and slave cylinder etc. As for strength it's probably exactly the same.

is that all I would need? Tranny, diff, clutch,fw, pp, and slave cyl?

Is your car already a 5 speed? if so yea that and a release (throw out) bearing. Pretty sure you can use the SS master cylinder with the rs slave cylinder without any major issues.

Yea my car is already a 5 speed. Is there any way to convert the RS trans to use my legacy clutch and all of that? Or do I need to convert to the RS push style by using the RS slave and clutch set-up?

I'll be easier to use the clutch set-up meant for the RS. You can keep your SS master cylinder, as both should be 5/8" bore. But, you might be able to find an RS master and slave combo deal on ebay, and then both will be new. Also a good time to get a stainless clutch line.

Did u say the swap is jdm? wouldn't that make it a wrx powertrain? which would be basically identical to your tranny besides the ratio...

Matt, you'll need the driveline, if not mentioned or need to change pinion flange on the rear diff. The pinion flange has different bolt spacing than the <94 stuff....been there/done that. The Impreza driveline may be too short as the Imprezas are shorter wheelbase....you can swap the flange from yours and reuse your line, but it's a PITA to get the flange off.

The good news is it may be an LSD like on the '91.

Edit: You'll also need the rear axles as the diff is an 'inny' vs having the stubs of the old stuff.

I decided it's not worth the hassle. I hbe a brand new clutch and all 4 CVs, I would do it if it was an "upgrade" but unjust don't think it's worth the trouble
