So I have a 1993 legacy turbo awd and when i steer sharp it cuts out is the best explanation i can really give, I already called subaru and they said that my transmission was trash. But my mechanic who works on them all the time just said you need to grease the front end and change the rear diff. fluid. So is it just some matinence or is it the whole transmission?

Grease the front end...what does that mean? And what do you mean by it cuts out? What cuts out? The power steering? Or your transmission?

Im pretty sure my mechanic is saying that id need to put a litte grease on or in the front diff. or something to that extent. But another indication that its the transmission is when i shut it off the car jumps forward almost as if you pop the clutch, but its an automatic....

It sounds like you may have two different iseues.

Regarding the steering, I'd make sure your power steering belt is in good shape and tight. It could be slipping under load while turning and will give you the sensation of the power steering cutting out.

Regarding your transmission, it sounds like you've got torque bind, which is usually an indicator of problems with the duty c solenoid and/or old/bad transmission fluid. The first thing I would recommend is draining the old fluid out of the transmission and putting fresh fluid in. Please read this thread for info on how to properly read the transmission fluid level.

i changed the transmission fluid and its turning better, i guess the front diff runs off the same oil so that fixed the steering issue. But it still sometimes jumps forward or backward when i shut it off. And have an oil leak coming from the front passenger side, it seems to be dripping onto the exhaust and creating alot of smoke. Any ideas? Maybe my valve cover? And my dad just got a parts sti and he's getting rid of his wrx turbo, does that fit onto the legacy ss? And how do you put the top mount intercooler from a wrx?

The WRX TMIC has been covered in tons of threads just search for it. What year is it? The 2002-2005 WRX TMIC is a huge pain in the ass to fit because it hits the firewall and you usually have to pound your firewall in with a hammer. The 06-07 WRX TMIC is the most popular one used on our cars because it's slimmer.

No matter what intercooler you use there's going to be a lot of custom work involved. Nothing is a direct fit. The WRX turbo can fit but again it's going to require a lot of work and custom piping because it's a straight inlet turbo as opposed to the VF11 on the legacy which has a 90 degree elbow inlet.

The front diff and transmission use different fluids. The dipstick for the diff is on the passenger side, while the dipstick for the trans is on the driver's side of the transmission.

I'd suggest maybe trying to change the transmission fluid again after driving for a bit.
