One of the POs of my Legacy Wagon had small children, dogs, and was a chain smoker. They also went to the beach and into the mud a lot. At least that's what my interior tells me.

I have the seats out of the car and am working on cleaning the carpets, with minimal success. Given how many hours I already have into this arduous task (spray, scrub, wait, extract, rinse, repeat) I'm about ready to rip the carpet out and drop in a new one.

Problem is I can't seem to find drop in carpet kits for the 1st gen Legacy. I got a quote on a "custom" kit to the tune of nearly $500!! But I see them for other cars on ebay all day for $120-$150.

Anyone know where I can get one? Or have a tan carpet in a parts car in good shape?

On another note, sand is a pain in the ass to get out of carpet.

Soak it in purple power for a little while and blast it with a pressure washer. It takes a VERY long time with the pressure washer before the water running out of the carpet starts to turn clear again but that's when the carpet should be clean. Without the pressure washer I don't see you getting them clean.

swap in a rs, wrx or sti carpet.

Have you removed the carpet from the car to do the cleaning? I'd try that like Kimo mentioned.

Otherwise, you could try and find a used carpet from another Legacy.

I was looking at some WRX carpets on NASIOC and noticed that they looked pretty similar. But then again, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

I think I'll pull the carpet out since I already have the seats out, and try the purple power trick. Didn't even think of that; good looking out.

I suppose worst case scenario I'll just RIT dye it black. Stay cleaner that way at least.

theres no difference really. the chassis is pretty much the same.

This worked. Although without having a pressure washer at my disposal, I had to take it to the car wash and work quickly. I soaked it in 3:1 purple power overnight, scrubbed with a stiff plastic brush, hit it with 2:1 purple power, soaked for an hour, then blasted it. Could literally see the dirt and nastiness washing away.

Not done yet, but after extracting about a gallon of water off the carpet, it looks 100x better than before. Going to work it again with the extractor tonight and hope it's dry enough to install tomorrow after I finish replacing the t belt and water pump.
