Hi all,
i recently bought a subaru legacy 89 sedan 1.8l with a faulty transmission (automatic)
i was wondering if my old transmission would fit for replacement, (subaru legacy 1995 sedan 2.0l (automatic))
will it fit easily or will there be a problem?

Welcome to the BBS.

I think it would physically fit, I think the question would be would the electronics match up. I'd suggest looking at the electrical connectors for the transmission between the two cars and see if they are the same or not.

Another thing to consider is whether the final drive ratios are the same. If they're not, you would need to also use the rear differential from the 1995 Legacy.

Well, on this note could you use a trans from a 93 with a 91? They
should be compatible as long as the rear diff has the same ratio, right?

The US non-turbo automatics have different final drive ratios between the 91 & 93 MY's, and wouldn't be compatible. The US turbo automatics would be compatible to each other.

Based on what the OP indicated for engine sizes, I do not believe he is in the US.

Wow, I didnt know that. I appreciate the input :D

Right. I believe the US Legacy's never came with a 1.8, right?
And we technically claim our Legacy's are 90's at the earliest
even though mine was made in February of 89.

Correct, we never got a 1.8 engine.

Yes, 1990 was the first model year the Legacy was offered in the US, even though most 90 MY's have a build date of 89.
