i recently purchased a 96 subaru legacy sedan with what looks like a 2.2 tt swap. it has a ej20 block with 2.2 heads, 2.2 intake, runing a single turbo. also has gray top injectors with E8 ecu. the guy i purchased the car from said motor was out of a 94 jdm legacy wagon. to get to the point the car does not run quit right. sputters on boost over 4 pounds and idles at 2300 rpm for like ten minutes befor the idle drops down. so im wondering what to do i guess. do i need new ecu and wire harness??
thanks

Welcome to the BBS.

My first recommendation would be to look at the tune for the ECU, or possibly replace the stand alone with the stock EJ20 ECU. That may not be a real viable option due to the difference in electrical harnesses.

Do you know of any tuners in the area that could look at how the tune is setup? Having a stand alone myself I can tell you that they are very configurable, but can be a bit of a pain to configure and get just right.

Hi Ryan,

My suggestion would be to probably run a stock EJ20G ECU. They are meant to use the 440 cc/min injectors which probably are similar to what’s on that motor already, or could easily be swapped over. You will need to do the rewiring to make everything work, but I think that’s going to give you the best option. Later down the line if you want to upgrade, you could look at a Rob tune ECU.

Does your engine have the coil on plug setup or a central coil pack on the intake manifold?

You can find some wiring diagrams for the overseas Liberty which had the EJ20G motor, in the stuff you need to know forum, to try and work out the wiring.
