i dont have my manual handy cause im at work. so ill just ask, the sensor on top of the block direcly below the ej22 tag. MINE IS LEAKING OIL LIKE CRAZY. thanks.

Oil pressure sensor Get a new one, I've seen 'em do that before. They're not terribly expensive.

Like Binford says, it's the oil pressuer sensor. Also called the oil pressure switch, it trips the oil pressure warning light when oil pressure is low.

It has nothing to do with a check engine light. There's no reason to wonder why your check engine light is on, though -- pull the trouble codes.

Is it leaking out of the body of the switch? Or at the base where it's threaded in? If it's the latter, removing it, cleaning it up, and reinstalling it might stop the leak.

It just threads right into the block, so after you pull the alternator and remove the one electrical connector, you just unscrew it.

It has pipe threads (1/8" BSPT), so when you install it (either the same one or a new one), use teflon tape or another kind of pipe thread sealer (as long as it's oil-safe) on the threads before threading it in. Subaru says you can use Permatex Ultra Grey RTV silicone, though that seems iffy to me. The specified torque is 18 ft-lbs.
