my wagon got totaled...

Long story, but basically some hipster in a Bronco ran a light and clipped me as I was making a left turn. I was able to drive it home (about 2 miles away). Claims adjuster will be coming by on Monday to take a look at it, but I imagine it's totaled. So, so, so, so glad I have comprehensive coverage. This is devastating because it was just starting to come together. I just put in a 16g turbo, was going to put in 440 injectors next week, just put in a new steering rack, tires, AEM UEGO, etc...This hurts. Oh well, just have to keep telling myself it's only a car. I should come out OK on the money/car end of it.
I'm probably going to be buying it back and just swapping everything into a clean body...What would be best as far as year/model? I gather the wiring is different for a 22T, but I'm not holding out for a turbo shell. Does year matter that much? Also if I found a 2WD wagon, will my drivetrain swap in?

The wiring is not much different with an N/A. There's just a few pins swapped at the ECU, but the earlier cars had different connectors in the engine bay. Everything will swap into a 2wd.

That sucks.
Fortunately it appears that nothing turbo-specific was damaged. It will be easy enough to swap all of the performance stuff (including the motor) into another shell. Not necessarily a turbo shell, either.
I did similar swap on my current wagon that got for $150 with a blown head gasket. What I did was drop the motor still attached to the crossmember out of the old car and into the new one thereby retaining all my performance bushings and swaybar in the front.
Definitely keep an eye out for a N/A shell as they can be had for pretty cheap. You don't get the turbo bumper or hood, if that's important to you, but it makes for a better sleeper, IMO.

Yes, that's a good point. If you can get the car up and have a plan to move things after, you can pretty much drop the entire front end and drivetrain out in one go. Probably the rear as well, but I would think trying to manage that would be more difficult than doing them separately.

yea the rear end would be easy to drop the front would be a lil harder but less work i guess its just the matter of geting the front end high enough to pull out.

thanks for the help guys. Should get this settled by the end of the week, so I've been looking for a shell to buy asap. Is the year going to matter much or just anything 90-94?

You may have to swap the engine wiring harness and possibly the IAC from a <92 onto your engine.

I'm getting pretty worried about this actually. I just found out that a salvage title significantly reduces the amount of money you can expect to get back from the insurance company, and yeah, the wagon has a salvage title. Not only that, but blue book value for these cars seems to be basically nothing. I've put a bunch of money into it and have about 2k in receipts from the shop to show them, but I think I'm going to get killed on this...Adjuster's supposed to be coming by to take a look at it tomorrow...

It may vary by state, but unless you had it appraised with your modifications and agreed on a higher value for the car (and paid more for insurance), you'll probably be lucky to get whatever the high value is with the receipts, especially considering the salvage title. I'd sell you my shell and give you 2 EJ22Ts with it, but you're about 3500 miles away and I haven't replaced the rear quarters yet (though I have the parts and epoxy).

Sorry to hear about the car, but as Steve mentioned, unless you have the car appraised and pay the added insurance, you'll have to see what the insurance ajdjuster says.
