RS Liberty boost/ bleed valve experiment
Posted: Thu Mar 29, 2001 3:09 am
FYI.
i did some experimenting today with my boost.
the car... 1992 RS Liberty Turbo, 3" exhaust, free flowing air filter and ducting..........
My car is fitted with a 'Festo' bleed valve setup. I set it at 16psi.
I wanted to see whether there was much wastegate creep using this bleed valve. So what did was instal a canister, 700ml volume, inbetween the wategate and the bleed valve.
When coming on boost the connection hoses and the 700ml cannister would need to fill with air before the pressure would build up to open the wastegate. In theory it should delay the wastegate opening.
Anyway, the Festo bleed valve obviously works well because there was no difference in the boost pressure and no difference in coming in earlier or later.
I tried it in 3rd gear up a slight hill and flooring it from 2000rpm. It still reaches 5psi @ 2700rpm and 10psi @3000 rpm.
Regards, Rod.
