I have a 91 legacy turbo with a 4EAT. For the last month or so the car will not shift from 1st to 2nd. This only happens when the transmission is cold. After the transmission is warm the problem goes away. Today I was driving and lost 2nd and 4th gear. I have a set of factory service manuals. From what I have read the tranny will go into safe mode and only shift to 3rd. I do have a transmission code that will pop up randomly after the car has been shut off and turned back on. The code is 33 speed sensor 2. The code never comes up while driving. Also drives in "N" and has no reverse.

it's beyond that! lol I pulled the pan off. There is like a 1/4 inch of metal at the bottom.

That's not good! Sounds like it's time for a new tranny.

Yup! lol. I was going to go to pick-n-pull today but it's snowing like crazy at my house. I'm going to do a 5 speed swap. I found your write up.

5MT swaps are not easy, but they are so worth it.

Thanks wtdash but this car is getting a 5 speed lol I hate autos. I went to the Pick-N-Pull today and picked up a 2000 Impreza 5 speed. I have to go back later this week to get the rest of the parts off of a gen 1 legacy. I wanted to keep my 3.90 LSD so I had to go with a gen 2 tranny. I compiled a list of transmissions with 3.90 front diffs. I will post them in a separate thread later tonight.
