Prelude Rear Lip

So, we'll see how this goes...
Jsun has an amazing legacy, on which he installed a prelude rear lip.
Seen here:
http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=43767
I picked up a 98 prelude rear bumper with the lip still on it months ago and never did anything with it. Mostly because I have no idea what I'm doing.
This will be a documentation of my tries to get this thing to not look completely derpy. And it will probably progress very slowly. And for the love of god please everyone chime in on this. All suggestions and ideas are appreciated on this.
Today: Slow start. All i did was cut the approximate lengths to see if I could even pull this thing off.
Jsun removed his mudflaps all together, but I think i'm going to try to have my rear lip butt up against the existing flaps at a matching angle. I still have no idea how to mount this thing.

I tried to find this stuff because he said those prelude guys always ditch them but no luck. Gave up a long time ago. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Looks good on Jsun's car, good luck!
Looks like the process would be fairly similar to mounting a WRX front lip, Shouldn't run into too much trouble, just trim to size, and cut little triangles out of the corners so that it can flex to fit the shape of your bumper if needed.

Kimo, depending on how this turns out, i might end up selling it. I'm not sure how it will look without a real lip on front and skirts. You have first dibs on it if i don't ruin it.
Tony, why can't you still be in Washington? Hope everything is going well over there.
Florin, Where have you been hiding? i'm going to drag this thing over to lynnwood and you're going to help me not screw it up! Ever make use of those skirts?
Apex, thanks for the encouragement. Haven't really done anything since, but it's been kinda crappy out.

I have them as well and they're all trimmed up to fit but I painted them black and don't like the way they look because they're black. One day I might color match them and figure out a way to mount them. PITA though.

Ugh, i'm being so lazy on this. And i have to take my flaps off every time i try to work on this. anyways, mike-tracy told me i should leave it unsymmetrical and have the passenger side piece all the way across to the muffler instead of trimming it to match the driver side.

Yes that's a good idea. Or....sell it to me for cheap and I'll finish it and put in on my car. Eh?

lol, it would probably look better on your car anyways. my poor ls is just an N/A no hood scoop or anything. T.T But you still have first dibs on it when i botch it, so no worries right? Are you handy with a heat gun? Maybe you should come help me with it. lol.

I would do the side skirts if they were painted to match my car but they're black and look like crap.

Walmart sells paint

I painted my side skirts
on my RS with some plastic paint and Krylon
clear. Seemed to hold up fine.

I have a real set of the rear skirts if you want to come by and take a look and measure.

So I found out a while ago that NAPA will can OEM paint codes. It's kinda pricey and takes 24 hours but it made my front fender look exact.

Thank you for the offer. I'd love to come see it, but I'm not really sure what it would accomplish. I think that a measurement of an actually skirt wouldn't really help me figure out how a prelude lip is supposed to fit, since so much of it is kind of just shaping it into place.
Are you going to the dyno day? maybe I can see it there. Or pictures, pictures are good too!

No dyno day, but will be at the picnic meet.
The point behind looking at the originals, is to see the mounts and the curves and get an idea from the original.
But I do agree that since it is custom, you will have to take the time and do things carefully.

Ah gotcha. Well, i'll look forward to seeing it there then, and depending where i'm at i might be able to get some good ideas. Thank you again for offering. If you were closer i'd probably drop by just for the sake of it.

So I ignored mike-tracy's stellar advice, and ended up with two symmetrically spats. This was most likely a poor choice on my part.
So I used the mounting holes to bolt them together, and then cut them equally
Not TOO terrible...
This is the left over middle section.
This is my most likely faulty logic on this. Notice how the middle section has an indent for the muffler tip of the prelude.
I was going to try and heat gun this thing out, but I didn't think it was going well. I wasn't sure that having a huge indent in the middle of my rear lip was going to look good. And i'm still not positive that having split them in half was the way to go either.
In any case, this is what i ended up with.
Now, it's still going to need a lot of shaping, and i don't know how to make the inside ends (not by the wheels) not just suddenly end in the middle of my bumper. So suggestions on this please!
So here's the passenger side.
The way the bottom of our (or at least the 93 LS bumper) has a indentation at the bottom. So I decided that to mount this thing, i'd need to double stick tape (temporary) the section closest to the wheel. But, the indent was causing the spat to not line up correctly. To deal with this, i decided to remove some of the material that made up the top part of the lip.
I cut out that top surface to approximately the red line in the picture. This is part of it removed.
After that I kind of gave up on life and packed everything away until I had a better game plan. I'm not sure if i can salvage this or not.
However, in the process of screwing everything up, i found this.
So, hopefully that's helpful to some one. I'm pretty sure it reads:
Skirt RR Bumper
71510-S30-MPK

That part number isn't coming up with anything in google or the honda parts catalog.
