Found on RS25.com - Slant-mount intercooler with charge pipe

Not mine, but someone on the BBS needs to pick this up!

Seems like a super cheap price. The charge pipe needs some modification to fit a stock Legacy Turbo, but fits perfectly up to any of the turbos with horizontal outlets (like the VF10 I'm selling *cough cough*). It fits correctly in the space between the throttle body and firewall.

Yeah. I paid almost 4 times that much to import one from the UK about ten years ago.

The newer WRX intercoolers are better with respect to performance but this one is a much better and easier fit.

i wonder how much the newer style adds to performance, it cant be overwhelmingly better

I'd imagine one of the biggest sources of restriction with this intercooler is the charge pipe; it's fairly narrow and the accordioning probably hurts flow significantly. Samco has an
excellent silicone replacement that would probably flow a lot better.

well its funny you say that because before i got a y pipe for my forester IC i just ran the drivers side of the IC, and when i switched i didnt really notice any real performance gains. So i almost wanna say this is a better route just because of how it fits, with the exception of an upgraded charge pipe.

Well, this stock pipe might be even more restrictive than the half-a-Y you had before. But I agree -- this might be a better route because of how easily it fits. And obviously Subaru thought it was good enough for the early WRXes; I believe they used this intercooler up through 1996 models.
And it's so cheap!

Vikash, I don't see how the charge pipe would come off to be replaced with the Samco one. I have a feeling it only works for the V1/2 STI (silver) slanties.

Oh, you're exactly right, James! My mistake!
Actually, now that I think about it, it is possible to cut the plastic charge pipe and the Samco hose and get them to fit, but it's a hack. boostjunkie's old car (which I owned for a while too) had it set up that way.

Is there a flange on the slanty inter cooler for a recirc valve or does it come off the charge pipe?

There's a fitting on the chargepipe for it.

Damn, just as I was thinking about buying it, lol, trade for 06 Forester XT with Y pipe(missing the 90*)? lol
Oh well, I didn't really need to spend the money anyway.
