Looking for advice on tires...

Hey everyone.
The time has come to buy tires for myself and my wife.
I need summer tires for all eight sixteen inch rims.
I've been looking at these - Hankook Ventus HRII H405
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direc ... lse&cs=205
Is this a good move?
Has anyone else had these tires?

I think I had those on my Mazda 3 in 17". They were less than half the price of the OEM Goodyear Eagle RSAs and I'd say about 85-90% as good. Great tread life (though a little less than the extraordinarily long lived Goodyears), good grip in wet and dry, a little louder than the Goodyears. They even managed to handle snow in a record year for it, but only JUST handled it—they were by no means a snow tire, but they weren't designed to be either, of course. Not sure how it will translate to the Subaru as the handling characteristics of both cars were substantially different, but I thought they were excellent value for the money.

I read over the reviews and I think the most troubling thing I read was sidewall blow outs. There's your normal people complaining about wear life, noise, traction, feel, etc, but there were more than one that said they had a sidewall blow out. The latest I read where that occurred was in 2010. Maybe they've gotten better and fixed that issue, but just something to keep in mind before you purchase.

Those look good. I've had 2 sets of Hankooks and I have nothing bad to say. You migh want to consider
these tires if you want a slightly quieter tire and one that will last much longer at only $12 more for a set.

What kind of driving do you do? What kind of weather will the tires see? What are the two vehicles?

The first vehicle is a 94 legacy N/A wagon and the second is a 98 legacy GT sedan. the tires will only see summers. so wet and dry weather. when winter hits so do the snow tires.

What's most important- grip, treadwear rating, or cost, or something else?
Hankook V12s are a stiffer and sticker tire than the one you listed but get pretty decent life and aren't too expensive. Above that you get into auto-x/track day capable street tires and much more expensive stuff.
I have them because they have a great grip:cost ratio and I didn't really need anything like a star spec or RS3.
Have you shopped on tirerack? They have a pretty good sorting and rating system.

yeah, Tire Rack is great to read reviews, except the zillions of people who rave about how great tires are in the first 500-5,000 miles...... yes, they are always going to be better than the crappy old shagged-out tires they replaced, but it's a little premature in my book. I normally want to see how they are rated at 20k, 30k, 40k, etc .... and that is when I normally rate mine, except sometimes I've rated tires on Tire Rack within the first 5k miles based on road noise and gas mileage (not handling, traction, or durability/wear).
I have had great experiences with Yokohama's across the board -- Geolander H/Ts & A/Ts on my trucks, Avid Touring S on my wife's commuter, and I currently have the AS530's on my 94 wagon and in the same size as you're looking for on your 98 Leggy GT -- 205/55/16 (they were cheap and local). The Avid TRZ gets great reviews also. They normally are on the cheap side too.
Those Hankooks look like a great price though, in that size.

I have these tires and are great, they just wear out a little faster than more expensive brands.
