I recently bought a 93 legacy l fwd auto to use the shell for my phase1 ej20g/Ss drivetrain swap. I pulled the motor and it was an NA ej20, any reason to find this motor in the states? I pulled the fuel rails for future upgrades but is there anything else I should know about this motor. Is it worth anything to anyone besides scrap? Rod isknocking and its leaking bad.should I just donate it to someone or charge $$ for it?

I don't know much about it. SOHC heads right? Can you take pics?

The only thing I could think of is it was swapped into that shell. I don't believe there's anything special with the non-turbo EJ20.

The early EJ20D's had some fancy intake technology and 150hp :P

Here it is, didnt seem like the motor had ever been taken out but 225,000 mile probably would'nt be able to tell the difference. I did take the fuel rails off hoping they would accept the 550cc STI injectors but thats cuz I thought it was a 2.2. are these rails the same?
Im just gonna donate it to another legacy SS owner who will fix it and run it in his SS while he builds a frankenstein. Also got this fwd transmission that is huge, its in the background of one of those pics. Its really heavy compared to my SS 5spd. can they handle some big torque or just heavy turds?

Links didn't work, I fixed em I think. You gotta copy the ones that have [img=
in-front of em.

So the block says ej20 on the block beneath the alternator's spot? I'm not familiar with 1st gen n/a engines but it looks to have the same setup as its contemporary ej22.

Thanks for the info on posting pics, it does say ej20 under the alternator. And the turd tranny will be on craigslist before I scrap it. Just an oddity I guess, nothing anyone would go crazy being its "jdm" Ill have to create a new build thread for my 93 legacy FWD->AWD 20g swap. It should be lighter, faster than my SS was with the same motor.

Yeah the block halves, crank and maybe the rods should be basically identical to an open deck ej20g. I don't see the point to why someone'd pay to import an ej20 n/a when ej22's are plentiful? Maybe someone blew their ej22 and made a short block from parts lying around...

For that, then, it might be an EJ20 turbo short block. I guess with rod knock it doesn't matter unless it happens to be open deck.

That is an interesting theory that it was pieced together, didn't know it was the same as a 20g open deck. I have an early closed deck 20g that I hand ported, rebuilt the front. Every seal and hose was replaced and good for 100k miles. Im hoping the weight difference in the base legacy over the ss will be noticeable.
