New speedometer cable fixed my various speedometer issues

First it was making objectionable noise. I greased the cable and that fixed it.
I continued to have unpredictable high and low readings. A few months ago, meter would register higher than speed. In the last month or so, it reads lower than actual.
Final straw was when the needle started to get jumpy when I removed the cable to replace the bulbs in instrument cluster.
Bought a new cable and tail piece from the dealer and all of the above is fixed.
The new cable has a section of protective fiber glass shell.
It's supposed to pop out when the retaining clip is removed from the groove on the tail piece (adapter) but it was stuck on mine. I just removed the clip and yanked it out by the cable.
Old lube and broken down plastic was gummy and chalky.
Cost almost $60, but well worth it for not getting tickets due to erratic readings.
