6spd Transmission Snout

I'm not sure if I've readily seen this information anywhere, and thought I'd share. The 5spd turbo (pull style) transmissions have the part where the throwout bearing rides on cast as part of the transmission case. it's aluminum and over time wears and creates grooves that can cause clutch shudder.

Here's a pic of the 5spd snout

There's a company that makes steel sleeves for the 5spd transmissions and a different size throw out bearing. For some reason it didn't work for my application, but I have a bastardized clutch master & slave cylinder setup.

Here's a pic of the snout sleeve.

Now on the 6spd, some more thought was given about this issue and the snout where the throwout bearing rides along is made from steel and is removable so it can be replaced if it becomes worn out. Very nice design.

Pretty cool. I didn't know about this problem. Mine must be ok as I haven't noticed any problems.

Yeah, it really depends on how bad the grooving is on the snout. If it's not bad, you probably won't notice anything.

I have the tsk sleeve kit on my car. They make three different Subaru versions maybe you got the wrong one? I think tsk1 and 3 are the push type and 1 should work.

I'm pretty confident it was the right version, but who's to know at this point....that was several years ago and sold the kit to someone to use and never heard back that it didn't work.
