Changing to vlsd

I swapped to a newer open rear diff last summer (00 ish)and drove it last winter and had traction issues, so I'm going vlsd. I converted to the newer male axles to match the diff and swapped the front flange and every thing fit great.

Now I have bought a 4.11 01 gt vlsd rear diff and I think I heard from somewhere that my axles won't work with this diff. I thought all the newer rear diffs had the same spline count. Is there a difference between the open verses vlsd axles stubs?

I don't know of any difference, but I couldn't tell you for sure.

Hopefully someone else can chime in.

Based on my limited experience from using a 3rd gen Legacy VLSD, I was able to use standard 2nd gen legacy axles. I had to swap the input flanges, and swapped the studs on the diff's rear cover to the shorter ones. This is on my 91 Legacy.

The older GC8 mechanical LSDs did indeed have specific unequal length axles which is where some confusion creeps in

Thanks for the info, I just finished changing one diff out now two left. I need to find one more set of rear axles, then all my cars will be hooked on LSD.
