What are you looking for, more flow, better filtration...?

I personally don't think the k&n filters filter as good as the paper filters. Since my Legacy doesn't get very many miles put on it, a paper filter works fine. I've found the stock Subaru paper filters probably filter more than the aftermarket, but also have more restriction. So it is a trade off, flow vs. filtration. Any of the aftermarket paper filters should be fine. I've run purolator and fram over the years.

HKS makes a hyperfilter dry filter or Apexi make one that will fit our cars also. They're both maintanence free filters. I've had bad luck with oil based filters on my cars (not specifically Subarus)

Both are around $40 bucks if I remember right.

I've always used a ams oil filter. It makes a huge diff in throttle response & performance.
