can someone get me a set of blueprints for both of these engines? I am quite curious as to whether or not I can modify the EA to be close to the T block. Being a Machinist has it's perks lol

If you are saying the EA81 and EA82 series of engines, they are completely different in every single way.

If you mean the EJ22 Naturally Aspirated vs the EJ22T US turbo engine, do you think you can account for this difference with machining?

that the only difference? what about the oil squirters and such? but yes, weld the deck closed, take a skim cut and do all of the pocketing and viola! closed deck! but ej22ea is the EJ22 N/A motor i believe

edit: looks like I had a tard moment apparently. EJ 221 and EJ222 are the NA models

Oil squirters, special pistons that can take more abuse than the average ej25 STI piston. Heads are nothing special but they are already drilled and tapped for the turbo, and have turbo cams. Slightly different intake manifold, higher flow injectors, higher flow oil pump, oil cooler (on the 91), etc etc. Lots of differences.

It's ok to call the n/a an ej22, everyone should understand what you mean. :)

Just wondering about the block itself, like bolt hole pos for heads and the like

All the bolt holes for mounting various things are the same. Heads, oilpan, transmission, etc.

The blocks are cast using different aluminum casting processes. The EJ22T block is high-pressure sand cast and ends up a lot stronger. The EJ22 open deck block is medium-pressure die-cast, which is a lot cheaper of a process for Subaru and it ends up a lot weaker and less dense. That's something that no amount of work could fix.

Seems like it would be cheaper to just find an EJ22T block. If you're dead set on making an EJ22 N/A block stronger (keep in mind they can handle probably up to or more than 20psi just fine in stock form) then you might want to look into pinning the block like reddevil did to his EJ25 block. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=1236649

Honestly, for the amount of money and time you would spend it is way easier just to find what you need and want, be it an EJ257 STi semi-closed deck block or an EJ22T closed-deck block.

Doug probably had one of the fastest first gen Legacies and used an open deck ej22.

Reddevil inspired many of us! I'm running n/a block with turbo heads and pistons currently. 1 year at 1 bar so far so good.
