i'm looking for leads on a low mileage 5 speed transmission from a 90-
94 turbo legacy sedan. i'm doing an automatic to manual conversion on
my 93 turbo wagon. so i'm also looking for pedals, hydralic clutch,
and rear diff. i've been searching the web high and low for anyone
who has done this before but none is to be found.
i'm also rebuilding the motor and putting pictures up as I go.

so is there a conclusion on using the 2.5L intake manifold on the
2.2L heads?
any info and all leads will be appreciated.
thanks

Auto to manual conversion.......hmmmm I want to do this to my 90 Legacy very badly. Mine is only FWD though, so I pretty much would only need tranny, pedals and accompanying components....like ecu and stuff. you may not need ecu swap...not sure.....I think the turbo legacies may have had a separate ecu for the tranny....not sure on that though.
Definitely keep us up to date on how you're makin out.

I have just re-built a 1994 Subaru Legacy EJ20 twin turbo gear box to
go into a 1989 Subaru Legacy, this gear box has twin baulk rings on
the second gear cluster aiding the gear change from 1st to 2nd. I
would recomend a 1994 or newer gear box either Impreza or Legacy.
I am also using a twin turbo pressure plate, pedal and hydrolics.
These are designed for 205KW plus so are a cheap upgrade.
As for diff's, you need to be careful here as 1994 or newer twin
turbo models have a different diff setup and the drive axles are
shorter and the inner cvs are part of the diff.
As for the 2.2l to 2.5l inlet manifold, you should look at another
throttle body and get it bored out, you will notice more benifit from
this I would think.

Heh, twin turbo?
He's trying to find a trans in the US i think. All we got was crap
over here and nothing on this continent was made for over 200hp usage
till we were finally blessed with the WRX, THIS YEAR!
A good, working 5-speed would be nice
I can get a 2.2NA 5-speed and diff for $400 and i'm seriously
thinking about it, even if i'll probably blow it in 10k miles.

Yes I realised he was from the US. Well why doesn't some one buy it
from NZ or Australia and get it shipped back. The purchase of a twin
turbo gear box and the cost of the re-build plus diff, pressure
plate, clutch pedal, hydrolics cost $1200NZ dollars or about 600 US.
I am putting this on my N/A EJ20 Subaru Legacy, I race this car and
after 300,000kms the gear box blew second gear. It will not be N/A
for long though, series 5 STI WRC impreza turbo and a lot more
serious mods, this will be good for 400hp at the wheels, so needed
the strongest gear box Subaru make with out spending 6,000 to 8,000
dollars for a rally gear kit.

Get it and rebuild it. It'll be cheaper then a new one and work just as
good.
