It's friggin great living in the middle of nowhere sometimes. Need a driveshaft. Found one somewhat local but I gotta ship it still.
Anyone know if a driveshaft from a 97 legacy wagon 5mt will fit a 92 legacy sedan 5mt?
Thx guys

The front section of the two-piece drive shaft should fit, but the rear section will likely not.
I have some lengths and info in my 6spd swap thread.

Also, the rear part of the shaft's flange will not mate up w/the Rear Diff's....different bolt pattern. They (those Subaru experts) changed it in '95-ish.
When I did my 5-speed swap, I tried a '95 and found this:
I went to install the driveshaft and it's too long - It's from a 1995 Legacy. The center carrier bearing (?) is about 2" too far back and the rear connection to the diff is about the same.
I ended up using a '93 drive shaft and swapped the pinion flange on the rear diff as my rear diff was from an '00 Impreza RS (4.11 LSD).

Todd,
I just went back and looked at some of the different FSM's I have and it's interesting to note that even for the new cars, there are slight differences in front driveshaft lengths when comparing the AT non-turbo, AT turbo, and the STi drive lines. There's no more than a 10mm spread between all three, but it's interesting to note the differences.
I'm wondering if it's coincidence that the first gen Legacy front driveshaft works with the 6spd, or if it's off a few mm ever so slightly...

most of the driveshafts I've seen are one piece which limits your options
I was almost ready to call the local 4x4 shop and get a custom one made
