I've heard good and bad things about godspeed. Unfortunately when it comes to coilovers, you get what you pay for. 600ish is cheap for new coilovers...

ive installed sets of the godspeed and the ricelands, and neither set lasts much more then a year before the damper is blown and the top hats are worn out. save your money and buy BC at the least.

They're bad, and they don't even have the fitment right. It fits either a 93-01 Impreza or a 95-99 Legacy, not both.

I feel like nobody agrees with a good set of coilovers around a 1000 $ range

You could get a set of '04 STi and use coilover sleeves w/ springrates of your choice for a good, cheap option. STi struts have beefy inverted bodies.

Check out the sticky at the top of the page in the suspension section. Jamal spent a lot of time working on these articles. There's a thread just on sway bars in there.

Also check out "Jamal's blanket suspension recommendations" in that same sticky.

Ahh. 1st gen impreza stuff fits our cars perfectly. If you have a tmic, then one designed for a turbo wrx/sti 1st gen impreza. Still check out that "blanket suspension recommendations", there are seriously nuggets in there. ;)

Eh, that needs an update. I don't even know what springs you can get for these cars anymore or what happens to the ride height when you use wrx stuff. The safe bet is going with 93-01 Impreza stuff because that's all the same.

ST makes their coilovers in GC fitment and they are under a grand. They would be my first choice for a budget complete suspension (I can order them, so if you'd like pricing send me a PM). The koni/ground control setup is just as good but takes more work.

BC vs ST is not even a contest. The ST stuff is made by kw, so you get durable high quality stuff that rides really well.

04 Sti struts are almost 10 years old now so you can't really just buy a set and drop them in. By the time you get them rebuilt/revalved you've probably spent over $700 and they don't even fit right.

The sti has a wider track so the holes at the bottom are a little different. When you put them on a "narrow" car it causes a little bit of binding especially in the rear.

If you get them cheap and they are in good condition it's still not a bad idea, but these days that's kind of hard to come by.

I was just curious. Do you feel or hear this binding? I have had 04 sti struts for a year and a half now with no issues. I have the rear 04 springs that taper at the top.

Yeah, especially since I put all the rear suspension bushings in which give the system no flex. My car rides much worse than it should. A WRX wagon guy actually damaged the valving in his coilovers before he and AST figured it out.

5-6 years ago it was a decent upgrade but I wouldn't do it again. I could have just bought konis for about the same price.

I even had a bunch of cash and a deal on a set of Racecomp tarmac 2s and bought a nice bicycle instead. Glad I did- put more miles on the bike than my car last year.
