Hi and welcome to the forum! I did an ej20G swap in my SS, with a TD05. I like it a lot but sometimes wish for the more torque of an ej22.

I have an ej20g with td05. Its ok but I would really like some more low end power. I think a 2.5 w/td05 would be perfect. Start reading my build thread for all the info you'll need. Its a lengthy read so be prepared. Most of the good stuff is probably in the first 50 pages.

It surprises me that more people who do the EJ20G swap don't keep the stock 2.2 bottom-end.

The only stock ej22t/dohc swap I've driven was CJ's. I felt his lack of EM was holding the engine's potential way back. Was a very nice to have power off boost and top end was really fun with his vf39? turbo though. Get that Z4 ecu wired up CJ!

Cant wait to drive TheSubieLover's stroked ej22t/20g combo :)

People don't use their ej22t block because when you get the ej20g its complete already and would cost more to replace the head gaskets and other seals/gaskets and do a lot of extra work. Also I don't know what kind of compression ratio you would have just swapping the blocks.

@Mike-tracy - what kind of power was your friend putting out with the vf39?

I've had my Legacy with the EJ22t in it but I'm about to swap my Impreza and it has been a hard choice whether to use my EJ22t or my EJ20 with my TD05 and the 550 robtune package. I like the torque of the EJ22t but I have never driven a EJ20 so don't have anything to compare it to. I just want to make the most power out of what I have.

Swap ej22t with ej20g heads and td05 and rob tune wih 550s.

I would but I don't want the low compression, just a personal preference. I will when I have some more money to buy the wiseco pistons to bump the compression back up. Either that or I have an EJ255 that has a bad bearing that I plan on rebuilding this summer.

I didn't realize it was low compression that way. I would stay away from the lower compression too. Not very fun IMO. That's how my EJ20G Forester heads/WRX EJ20G block is and it's noticeable slower off the line than the high compression Forester EJ20G block was before it blew.

Yeah, I am all about torque and acceleration, I don't really care about top speed. Don't get me wrong, I would love to go 200mph before I die but it most likely won't ever be in anything I own, lol. So for now, I just want to get to 100 as quickly as possible.

The 2.2t block with 20g heads will do just that. Compliment it with a vf39 or td05, and you'll be making nice power on 10#'s of boost. My 2.2t to 2.37t with vf39 and 20g heads and sti crank pulls nice and strong to red line at 10 pounds of boost.

Yeah, that is eventually my goal. Just need the funds. Did you have the crank machined for the #3 thrust position or have the block machined for the #5 thrust position. I've wondered how much the machine work is to have the block machined to accept the #5 thrust for the phase 2 2.5 cranks.

You'll need some expensive tires to do 200 mph. Mine are only rated to 150.

Exactly why it will never happen in a car I own, lol. Not to mention the other expensive upgrades to get a car to go that fast.

Check this car out for acceleration, I have always liked Lotus. Big Go cart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmscSzFurwg

I'll take a look at the paper work and report back.
