2010 WRX 17x7 rims, 53mm offset, rubbing on spring perches.

Like the title says, picked up some rims off a 2010 WRX running Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs in 225/45/R17. Put the front right on to see how it looks and check fitment. Immediately noticed the inside of the tire is up against the spring perch. What is my next step? Spacers? 215/45/R17s? Different suspension setup? Thanks!

You could bang in the spring perch a little bit (ghetto, but have seen it), go the spacer route (you will likely have rubbing issues on the outside and will need fender rolling), or go with coil overs or some other suspension setup.
That's a big wheel & tire to fit under a 1st gen Legacy without doing some tweaking to make it fit.

Yea I figured I'd have to do tweaking of some sort, which I don't mind. I'm just a sucker for grrrrrip! May try banging in the spring perches since i will be doing suspension in the very near future anyway. Any info/links on what suspension setups are best for clearance? I was thinking of rolling and doing a small pull on the fenders anyway, so I'd be more concerned about constantly dealing with wheel bearings if I go the spacer route. Thanks for the advise as always Josh.

I'm looking at some local Hankook Icebar W300 tires in 205/50/r17 size. Would these help my clearence or would the extra height cause issues?

Betting the 205 will help the rubbing issues. You should be able to pull off 205/50/17 I did 205/55/16 for awhile with no issues.

I've seen people do spacer+fender roll+camber +caster adjustments to get out of the situation.
If its done properly the car can handle like a dream.
I had to roll the rears on one of my first gens, not that bad if you study other peoples work a bit. There is a ghetto looking method using a baseball bat for rolling...but it does work pretty slick.

I got the same wheels for my 93. I was told 215/50r17 is the biggest I could probably get away with. I'm gonna look for something more like 205/45 though.

I had rubbing issues with 205/50/16s on 2.5RS 6-spokes, so I can only imagine your problems.
The rub on the spring perches was so slight I let the tire wear down, it was about 1/16th of an inch at the inside corner of the tread. Took about 10 miles and that problem was done. I just tooled around below 30 and stopped every couple miles to make sure that A. I was making progress, and B. that I wasn't overheating the tire.
I used a fender roller to fix the other side. It took a couple tries but wasn't too bad.
Now I am rubbing on bumps only, it appears to be a spot inside the wheel well... that I am taking a hammer to.

I am currently running 215/45R17's on WRX rims and have no issues at all. They fit better than stock.

Same here- you can get 215/45/17 and they barely clear but they do with the 53 offset. You could get 10mm spacer and pull the lip liner and do a little rolling and should be ok.
