Weird starting issue.

My 92ss randomly wont start. I replaced the starter, alternator, battery, and ignition switch. When i replaced the starter the starting issue went away, then came back. Then replaced the ignition switch. After that, i finally thought i figured it out, and all was cherry. Well now it will start when it wants any ideas where to start my search? Electrical is not even close to being a strong point so any help would be awesome. I really dont want to take it to a shop, because all the ones in hawaii are ripoffs. :/

I too went down that path, trying to figure out what went out. Starting when it wants to... Replaced ignition, relay, messed with the starter.. Finally I got fed up and just installed a push button.

The MT's utilize a relay for the clutch interlock system. This forces you to depress the clutch to start the car. It will be up under the dash and be a yellowish relay that is connected to a blue electrical connector.

Here's a picture of the blue connector.

You can try jumpering pins 3 & 4 together on the connector and see if that eliminates your starting issues. Make sure to use similar gauge wire for the jumper wire. It's either 12 or 10 gauge, I'm not 100% sure.

Also, just to note, this will allow the car to start without the clutch being depressed, so make sure the transmission is out of gear.

If this works and the car starts fine, you may just need to replace that starter interlock relay.

No, I wouldn't cut the wires, I would use a jumper wire that just plugs into those spots on the connecter. Use male spade connectors, like this with the jumper wire, and you can plug and unplug the jumper wire for testing purposes.

Make sense?

Did that still giving me issues. I think i shall put in a push button? The guys that live around me all say, i should just say f it and put in a push button. It seems like all i need to do is get the pushbutton and then wire it from the battery, to the switch, then to that little spade thing off the back of the stater seems simple. But i am not good at electrical as you all have figured out.

yes, some thick wire, I used small amp wire, directly from battery + to switch to the connector on the top of the starter

What size like 4 gauge? or 12? or 18? You used a thick wire thats small amp? did you put a fuse inline just incase ? also did you connect the connector to that little spade thing? or to where the wire from the battery goes straight to the starteR?

Awesome would you recommend inline fuse? and it connects to the little spade connector on the starter right?

The black spade connector. Theoretically you could also run your wire from the 12mm nut on the starter to your push button and then back to your starters nlack connector. 8 would be fine. You can probably use what ever size the oem wire is on the black connector.

I had a 15amp fuse inline. It would work for awhile and blow. I got tired of replacing the fuse so i eliminated it.

The push button i used is the 12.99 button at autozone. It is actually for this purpose.

Well got off early, got it all hooked up. Super easy i was surprised. i think the hardest was getting the wire through the firewall. But my pushbutton is wired in my elbow rest so super sneaky lol. thanks all! also SHE STARTS NO ISSES NOW!
