04 WRX 5 speed swap question

hi guys, I was just wondering if someone who has done a 02-04 WRX drivetrain swap into their legacy sedan (i have a 1993 SS) could give me some advise on my 4EAT to 5spd swap. I just wanted to quickly pick your brains with regards to my parts selection for my swap. I have a 1993 SS Turbo 4EAT sedan that I want to swap into 5spd. I have a 2004 WRX 5spd that I am doing a full engine/trans swap from a JDM ver 7sti motor and JDM ver 8sti trans, diff etc. So I want to use as much as I can from the 2004 WRX into my 1993 leggy turbo. I basically wanna know how to go about this swap. Ive read bits and pieces here and there but i am unsure of whether or not this is a straight forward swap. Can i use all the below parts? im in need of good direction. Plz help
So this is my parts accumilation so far:
-04 WRX Transmission & Trans crossmember
-04 WRX Axles
-04 WRX Driveshaft
-04 WRX 3.90 LSD rear diff
-04 WRX starter
-04 WRX clutch, PP, flywheel, throwout bearing etc.
-02 WRX pedal box (apparently a headache to put in)
-02 WRX clutch master cylinder
So basically swwapping in a WRX drivetrain lol
I just wanna know if:
-Can I use the WRX Driveshaft? or do I need a different one?
-If have everything I need?
-If not what am I missing?
-And are all these parts useable for my swap?
Thanks guys!

Huh...all the smart guys must be on spring break.....
I'll offer that the driveshaft probably won't work. A '91-'94 MT may be needed. HOWEVER, the pinion flange-where the diff bolts to the driveshaft - may not match as the bolt spacing is different. You can swap the flanges??
You also may need the brake, clutch, etc switches for the electrical. I don't know if the newer stuff works w/the older stuff. You'll need to see JC's info below about dealing w/the TCU and Trans ID @ the ECU (your ECU will work).
Pretty sure the cruise control computer is different, too.
I'm sure there's more on here, too. Also, RS25.com may have additional info.
And JC's SWAP site
HERE.

You will need a '90-'94 Legacy 5-speed driveshaft and swap the flange on the diff. You *may* be able to use one from a '95-'99 Legacy 5 speed, or piece the front half of a Legacy shaft to the rear half of the WRX shaft. I don't recall exactly what combos work, but I have done it before.
The Legacy rear diff will not work. The Legacy SS rear diff is a 3.9:1 ratio. Even though both transmissions are 3.90:1, the WRX rear diff is a 3.54:1 ratio because the WRX transfercase has a 1.1:1 ratio vs. The Legacy SS @ a straight 1:1.
You may need to swap your Legacy rear diff cover onto the WRX diff to make it easier to bolt to the Legacy rear crossmember.
I *believe* all the Legacy switches will fit the WRX pedals.
You didn't list your WRX shift linkage, which you will need. Don't forget the rear-most bracket/bushing bolted to the underside of the tunnel.

awsome info guys! What i may do is use a 91-92 5spd. I have 2 of them, one with good gears but cracked case, and one with good case and broken gears. hopefully i can make 1 good tranny from that lol. Im gonna crack them both open this weekend and see. ill update as i go. thx again guys!

Supposing one had an SS sedan just missing the 22t shortblock, but had a full 04 WRX wagon available for parts (t-boned), would this swap be any easier, in terms of parts availability?
I understand the driveshaft and rear end would need a bit of . . . finessé-ing. . But are there any electronic gremlins that might prevent one from just taking the WRX in its entirety and moving it into the SS shell?
Also, sorry to bump a year old thread.
Anybody remember me? ?

If you're wanting to see someone taking a wrx in it's entirety, you should peep out my build thread in the build journals section.

Are you just wanting the 5spd swap components from the WRX or are you wanting more than that?
If you're just wanting the 5spd stuff, as long as you get the rear diff and axles to match....the only question then becomes the ABS tone ring setup. If those work, you should be able to use the WRX stuff.

I'm basically looking at taking the whole wrx and putting it in the ss. . .

It's a pain in the ass Tris or at least it was for me, BUT I didn't pull the harness out of the wrx or have the wrx in my driveway to look at when putting things on my legacy. Anyways, you have a donor car and the time, why not?
I do wish I bought a wrecked wrx instead of piecing the parts together.
The dashboard is going to be a pain in the ass. The HVAC is as well. I did quite a bit of work to get them all to fit.

Yes, it's going to super suck....even with having a donor car.

Didn't someone else get the WRX ECU running the stock dash by repinning his old harness? Doesn't sound fun but less unfun than a dash swap.

The worst part was the hvac boxes and drinking holes thru the firewall. I still have some work to do and make some brackets to secure the dash more firmly, but it's in!
