Information request on interior lighting.

I picked up a full set of door panel lights a couple weeks ago at pick n pull. Mostly because I noticed my black ss door panels have the mount underneath the fabric so why not just cut out the fabric and have the cool little lights in the door panels. I'm pretty sure all the door panels have them. Anyways, I want to install them BUT I only want the light to come on when that ONE door is open, not all 4 lights come on when one door is open.

SO my question is, Are the door pin switches positive or grounded? Would I apply +12 to one wire of the light and ground out to the pin switch or would I apply ground to the light and run +12 from the door pin switch.

I did search, found 12 pages with the terms "door lights" and got half way thru, so if you find something after page 6, I'm sorry. I got too lazy to skim the pages.

I guess I just leaked another mod that was gonna be a little surprise in my Build Thread.

Or is there another couple of wires in the door wiring harness that sends the signal to the cluster to tell which door is open that i can tap into?

If you pull off your kick panel down on the floor there is a green or red connector that is controlled by the door switch. That is where the lights plug in to, I can post pics when I get home.

this should be cool.

maybe tap into the sensor where the rubber thingy sticks out on each door individually? this way, when its activated only that door lights up.

i have no idea if it would work, but just an idea.

Page 27-28 from here should give you some more info
http://main.experiencetherave.com/subar ... agrams.zip

The wiring should be similar on the later models.

What I would do is wire a ground to the lights, and then run the other lead to the door switch wiring (same side as the factory ground). That should cause the lights to come on when that door is open.

heres a pic of the front plug that is for that light. I don't have a pic of the rear but the cars are all wired for the lights already. In the rear if you pull the lower center piller molding off you will see where the door wiring is pluged in. That plug on the door side has two slots that don't have any wires or connectors, those are the light conections for the door that is operated by the door switch.

So basicly if you grab the wiring harness from the outher doors and plug it in it will work

Do you have a PC or MAC? It's a zip file and needs to be extracted using winzip or some other compression utility. Windows has the ability built into it to extract files.

Let me know what kind of error message you're getting and I can try and help you.

Thanks for the insight, I'll look for it today. I did grab all the lights + 20" or of wiring for each.

Josh, Tanks for reminding me about that file. I think I already have it on my laptop.

Rallyak, I do not have those pink plugs on my chassis harness. I'll have to wire them all in.

Those are already on the chassis harness the pink plugs. I wander if its the same on my wife's, I will pull the kick panel real quick and check. Might be different between years.

90-94 LSI and i think LS models got the lights, however the majority of the other years/models are not pe-wired for them.

When I was going thru my car I found that those plugs were there and worked with the door switch and the same with the rears in the body harness. I also found that my car was prewired for power antenna, which I put one on and only use in the summer. Mine is a 90L model but came stock with ABS and alloy wheels. I will double check on my wife's car next time, sorry for the bad info.

Did anyone ever come up with a solution for those that do not have the plugs?

You'd have to manually wire something in to make things work.

I did wire up my drivers door. I wired it to turn on when the light above the fuse panel comes on, which is when the drivers door opens.

If you figure out the triggers for the other doors, you can wire the door panel lights to them. I dont remember if they're a positive or negative trigger.

However if you do that, make sure the rubber covers for the door triggers are fully intact. Dont wanna have a door trigger partially out. They're touchy...
