SO that stupid sunroof stop 3/4 of the way closed.

Upon searching for this and seeing a few posts about how the "Stop" feature is a safety measure, I'm wondering if anyone has ever found a way to get around it? I absolutely hate how it gets almost closed and then stops and you have to press the button again.

Is it a feature in the control module set by time? Do you think it's a it's a stop with some sort of trigger? I am wondering because i have a sedan track that I'm going to reseal and install in my car (I have a wagon track in now) and I would love to see if there's a way to eliminate it.

I posted this to see if someone already had a solution. I'm going to pull the sunroof computer off the new to me track and see if there's some sort of dial inside it.

Comments here are always welcome, i'll take some pics too of the board in the computer. Maybe someone can shed some light.

Another thing someone could add is if someone has a direct diagram, maybe I could figure it out by supplying power to the sunroof track while it is in my garage and watching all the mechanisms.

After looking at the board of the computer I found no type of adjustment. Went thru my coffee can of misc sunroof parts i found something else that may be the culprit. 2 switches.

Image

My "guess" is the left switch may control the "stop" seeing as it only has 2 wires going to it. Maybe I'm wrong. I hope not. I'm going to try and find a schematic for the wiring harness on the sunroof assembly and see if i can supply 12v to the plug and watch this mechanism.

Here's the sunroof computer board.

Image

Here's the sunroof wiring harness plug. Note; Locking tab is on top. The top left pin is a 10awg wire, the rest are 12 or 14awg. I'm assuming the 10awg is power.

Image

The wiring order for top is
Top left - Blue
Top middle - Locking Tab
Top right - Yellow/Blue

Bottom left - Yellow/Black
Bottom middle - Yellow/Red
Bottom right - Yellow

CJ,

From what I can tell in the wiring diagrams, it's doing that because there is a limit switch telling the sunroof that it has reached that limit switch. I'm not sure if the sunroof computer will get pissed off if you try and bypass the first limit switch. That's what I'd try though. Jumper the wires together and see what it does or just tape the limit switch down....that'd probably be easier.

I feel like if you tape it down the sunroof wont work. Because as soon as one of the switches are pressed im sure the roof stops. Just need to power it and see which switch causes the stop.

-I might be an idiot for saying this, in which you probably already know, if all fails, you can close the sunroof with the allen key in the center console. Sit in the back seat and there will be that plug in the roof where you can stick that allen key to manually open or close the sunroof.

Thanks, I already knew. But My sunroof works, I am just tired of it stopping 3/4 of the way closed and having to press the close button again.

-Oh okay, gotcha!
-I have an issue with mine. I can get it to go up and back but it won't go forward and close. I just want to take it out, replace it with a piece of plexiglass or something and bring the center of gravity down lower.

I resealed my rails last week to stop the leaking and replaced my control module and mine stops at 3/4 now as well.

It really doesn't bother me though because before this my sunroof leaked and only worked about 1/2 time :)

The 3/4 stop is on all sun roofs. It really bugs the shit out of me. I'm glad I got rid of it.

Before I swapped my control module mine never stopped. Closed in one press...when it worked.

And how do you fix it?

Up above, you saw 2 switches. there's a third switch that needs to be pressed in at all times to eliminate the 3/4 stop.

Here you can see the sunroof is almost 3/4 closed

Image

Here you can see the end of the cable and the 3rd stop switch with a little metal arm on it. that arm is pressed against the cable until the cable end goes past it. then it releases the arm and opens the switch, thus stopping the sunroof 3/4 the way.

Image

What I did is straighten that piece of metal so it'd be presses up against the plastic casing.

Image

Here you can see where the 3rd switch goes.

Image

It's a fairly simple fix. I took a chance straightening that piece of metal out because i have spare switches in a coffee can in my garage. All else failed, I would have had backup parts.

There's most likely going to be no problems with the computer either.

Also, the sunroof does not try to over open or close, functionality hasnt changed except the stop

That was the limit switch I was telling you about.

Yeah, For some reason i was assuming as soon as it was pressed it would stop. Instead it was backwards.

Nice fix. I always wanted my sunroof to be less safe, seeing as how I'm not an idiot. If I ever need to yank the sunroof in my '99 wagon I will probably investigate a similar fix for that one.

There's no computer control of the sunroof, so it doesn't care that the limit switch is fooled. It doesn't "know" what position the sunroof is in or anything that would cause issues. You'll be fine.

Bumping this up, just did it today. My sunroof limit switch is pushed to stop the glass. I was able to simply pull the metal arm off and the stop was gone.

this is doable while the sun roof and headliner is installed?

Its easier when the headliner is pulled down in the back.
