Complete EJ205 Swap?

I have a 93 Legacy bone stock and an EJ205 from an 06 Impreza WRX available. From what all I can tell it'd be a reasonably simple swap as a complete engine, but I'm not familiar with the finer nuances of engine swaps so I was hoping you guys could clue me in. Also available to me are several full engines, Phase I EJ22s, and an 02 EJ20 from a standard Impreza of that year. So I have options to build, and I'm not afraid of complications involved as I have plenty of free time on my hands and I'm more than willing to learn all of the finer points of engine swapping and work, I'm simply hoping for some well reasoned direction in this build. Any help is appreciated in advance.
Thank you,
Chloro²

i would start your education by just searching through the build thread and such to get a feel for what youre dealing with! there is a shit ton of information on just about every swap possible on the forum already, all you gotta do is find it. this site and the people on it are a great source of info! good luck with the swap and welcome to the site!

Do you have the harness for the EJ205? There will be other things you'll need such as sensors and such. With other, older motors such as the 20g, a lot of things can be swapped and used without an issue being the motors are similar with connectors, harnesses, and sensors. But I don't know about the compatibility with the 205 and our stock sensors/plugs/sensors and what not.

Hi,
The EJ205 block is about all you could use. The heads and corresponding intake manifold won't be compatible w/the engine harness of the '93.
You'd either need to do a full swap of the harness - which includes pulling the dash, or run a standalone ECU that can run the 205 on the '93's existing harness...although even that requires a lot of wiring.
You've also got the '93's OBD1 vs the '06 OBD2/CANBUS (?) system to deal with.
As stated above, start your reading. NASIOC and RS25.com are other good resources and will have a lot of swap info.

Welcome to the BBS.
As mentioned, the wiring and engine management are really the limiting factors with the engine swap. Those two pieces define what you can swap based on how involved you want to get with the wiring and engine management.
If you want to stay OBD2 and keep the OBD2 ECU to control the EJ205, then I'd suggest reading up on harness swaps/merging.

Are you sure the 06 WRX is an ej205....USDM 06 had the ej255.
Either way....the best performance and reliability will be to swap over the full WRX motor with all wiring and ECU, then get a Cobb AP and get it tuned. This way you get a modern computer, fairly new wiring and heads that flow good....and if it's really an ej255....then a 2.5L with intake side AVCS.
