Turbo auto Trans. vs. N/A auto trans.

The trans. in my '92 SS seems to be going out. I don't have the time or inclination right now to put in a 5 speed, but I have a chance to get a low-mileage tranny out of a non-turbo '92 Legacy. Does anyone know how the gearing is different and how it will affect the way it drives? I believe the final drive ratio is the same at 3.90 but I can't find any info on the other gears. Thanks

All the early 4EATs have the same gearing aside from varying final drive ratios. The only difference is the NA trans doesn't have the extra clutches to withstand the same abuse as the turbo trans. But if you're not a racer it should be fine

The 92-94 non-turbo AT's did have slightly different gearing for 1st & 2nd gear than the turbo models. It's not a huge difference, but there is a difference. The final drive ratio is the same, 3.90.
I have heard that the TCU's are different between the turbo & non-turbo models, so you may also want to grab the non-turbo TCU if decide to use the non-turbo AT.

+1
When I did my 1st swap on the AT trans (b4 I went 5-speed), I put in an SS/TW turbo trans and it shifted better w/the matching TCU.
The gearing is in the owner's manual under the Specs and Maintenance Data.
