Stock MAF question.

Alright, so this may be a dumb question, but I figured it never hurts to ask. Stock MAF on the EJ22T (the hitachi one) has the actual guts plugged in the side of it, and the housing is just a hunk of metal with a screen in it. If I were to unbolt the actual unit from the housing, and place in in another housing(something similar, that isn't cracked, for example) would that cause problems? I would assume that so long as the inner diameter was the same, that the electronics would not recognize a difference, but I have no clue. Thanks in advance.

Naw, should work fine, I don't see it being a problem. Just make sure the MAF sensor has a good seal on it.

Are you wanting to move it from the old housing into another Hitachi housing or something completely different?

Something completely different. Money is a factor, and housings that take MAFs are cheap. Hitachi's are not.

I will caution you in that the inner diameter of the housing needs to be exactly the same dimensions and the sensor needs to be positioned in the same spot as with the Hitachi housing. Additionally, the sensor should be positioned in the middle of the new housing and the housing should be straight and at least the same length as the original Hitachi housing.

These Hitachi sensors came on the 90-91 MT non-turbo legacies and aren't that expensive used. Especially since you can buy a bad sensor and just reuse the housing. Someone's bound to have a bad sensor they'd be willing sell you cheap.
