buying help

IM trying to buy a turbo legacy off a guy. He doesn't have it up for sale but money talks. I was planning on leaving a note on it. What's the best way to ask him?
I would just leave a note complimenting him on his car, say you are very interested in purchasing it, and that you'd like to talk and discuss it with him. You could add that you're a "motivated" buyer of some sorts.
Ultimately, if he's not interested he may not call or just call to say no thank you. If he's even remotely interested, he'll likely call and fish to see how much you're willing to offer.
