retune needed?

Is it a problem if you do not retune a ej22e with a new larger exhaust? Going with a UEL,high-flow cat,2.25" piping and a catback.

MAF based cars don't really need to be "re-tuned" if you make mild modifications. The MAF sensor will detect the added airflow and compensate fueling accordingly.

That's what I thought but my bfs wrx needed a retune when he did his turboback,so I was just making sure.

These cars have no cheap tuning options.

Yeah we have OBD1 cars and you can't tune them with a flash or anything like WRX's. You have to get a Standalone or Piggyback ECU to have any sort of tune. You can do a lot with these cars and not need a tune. I had a CAI, 3" turbo back, different turbo at 13psi, and had no issues. Although a tune will unlock so much more power.

Do you know if he converted over to MAP based setup? If not, a retune might have just helped tweak the ECU slightly. It probalby would have learned to use the turbo back, but I'm guessing one of the main things people tune when putting a turbo back on a newer WRX is the wastegate/boost control. So that may be what he had redone.

Also, are there any way to increase the fuel capacity into the motor...ie bigger injectors, different pressure regulator.

You can certainly do that, but without a way to control it, your car will run way worse.

You can upgrade from your 380cc pinktop injectors to either 440cc Greytops or 550cc STi Yellowtops, but like Mike said you need something to control it. Either a piggyback or a Robtune. Robtune is awesome cause he tunes for exact setup, whether you have 440's or 550's, what boost you want to run, launch control, etc.

Upgraded injectors are not really necessary on the non-turbo engines.
