Car starts and immediately dies

Might as well ask here while I try to troubleshoot.

It starts up just like normal, but dies immediately, doesn't sputter out or anything just starts up fine and immediately after shuts down, what you would expect from a vacuum line being disconnected. I replaced the MAF with a known good one, made absolutely no difference, neither does unplugging it. I've traced all the vacuum lines and they're all connected, there may be some small leaks but nothing that would keep it from running completely like this. It seems to flood after I try starting it a few times consecutively, it gets more difficult to start, and it makes no difference if I hit the gas to try to keep it running, still dies.

I'm not 100% sure but I think there was a decently loud exhaust pop as I was driving down the freeway, still drove fine after for about 10-15 until I parked, went to move it later and it ran fine, then just all of the sudden died and now here we are.

Any ideas here? It does show a code for MAF, hence why I changed it, but it is possible it's an old code.

EDIT: Fuel pump makes no noise but is getting voltage, I imagine that would mean it's dead correct? Think I found the problem.

I am right there with you on the pump concern, especially since you said you heard the loud pop from the intake. Thats what mine did before it went out.

Im pretty sure you just need the pump. As far as the maf, I would still check the wiring.

And of course the one part I can actually get same day from the parts store or the dealer is the one where it's actually similarly priced or cheaper to upgrade *sigh*

HI,
I don't see what you're working on ....assume it's AT LEAST a Subie :-)

But in Renton/Seatttle/etc. you should be able to find a Walbro or Deatschwerks fuel pump for $100-$
150- or find a used STi pump? You'll need an install kit, too.

Yea I'm looking for a Walbro, but it's not something that people seem to stock, so I'm just gonna order it.

And yea it's an SS, guess I don't have it listed anywhere.

What year is your SS?

If you replace the pump and are still having issues I could see if I have time while I'm up there to take a look at it.

It's a 91.

And thanks I appreciate it, I'm sure I'll be okay though, I have two other cars to drive anyway.

Got it in, runs great now!

Took TEN DAYS to get it though from PartUSA on Amazon, but I suppose shipping was free so I can't complain too much. However if I'd known I would have picked a faster method...
