The wire to my knock sensor is in pretty rough shape. I am planning on getting a piece from junkyard. Now when I splice it what do I do about the shielding? Solder it together like a wire or just overlap it on its self? Thanks for the help!

Probably overlapping it onto itself should be sufficient. If you can twist some of the shielding wire together, that may be better.
