Ok Serious thoughts about external wastegates.

I've been shopping around for the last few days looking for deals on wastegates. I'm curious about something tho. Has everyone ever bought one of WyntonM's wastegates? I know it's cheap eBay stuff, but we get our TurboXS plates from them for or TMIC installs. Ive actually ran a blow off valve made by them as well, and it functioned just fine.
If it's just a diaphram with a plate and spring, what's the difference between one of WyntonM's or Tial's?

Would this be for the internal wastegate turbos or external?

I can't comment between the two other than I have heard of Tial, but not WyntonM. As for their inards and functionality, hopefully someone else can comment.

CJ,
In my opinion you only need an external wastegate if you have boost creep and are using an electronic boost controller or if you have any other signs that the current wastegate is not adequately venting the exhaust gas.
Depending on the situation an external might improve the turbo's responsiveness, but unless you are utilizing a turbo specifically designed for an external wastegate, I'm not sure you'll see much performance benefits. Obviously, if you want to the noise, an external WG will deliver that.
That's just my two cents without knowing more about the specific setup and your motivations/desires of looking at an external wastegate.

Josh, I appreciate your feedback on the topic.
You actually listed 2 reasons why I'm shopping around for a wastegate. My TD04 does have wastegate flutter, and I have a Blitz Dual SBC waiting to go back into my 92 SS.
I'm considering buying the Grimmspeed Wastegate Bracket and the TD04 19T upgrade wheel and compressor housing.
With watching several wastegates on ebay that were used and seeing them go for decent prices, I may just pick up a used one. I'm more curious about the knockoff brand new stuff. It's just a diaphram and shaft. I guess I wanna know if someone else has already tried to use one, and if so how long did it last?

CJ,
Is there a reson you're not wanting to upgrade the TD04 to a different turbo? I think you could probably alleviate some of the issues you are seeing by going to a different turbo. I understand cost and keeping the desirable attributes of the TD04 may be weighing into your decision, but an EWG seems kind of overkill for a TD04.
Is an EWG a common upgrade for the WRX guys on NASIOC? I'd suggest looking on NASIOC to see if there are others that have upgraded to an EWG on the TD04 to see what improvements they noticed. I think it would be good to confirm that upgrading to an EWG will alleviate the reasons you're wanting to upgrade.

Yes. As far as the upgrade, I read on nasioc that it had a few numbers higher than a 2.0 with a vf39. Also quicker boost spool up. Eventually the upgraded td04 would go on the 93.

how much boost are you running though your TD04? are you running 20h heads?
an external waste gate is alot for that small turbo. but if you do go that route your going to want one no larger then a 38mm. the the smaller the more exhaust energy you'll use. that larger the gate the less exhaust you'll want to use. so it comes down to how much power you are going to be shooting for.

After the fcd is installed again, 15lbs until I either rebuild the td05 or vf39.
This will be pre 20g ecu installation.
