awic and throtle body oil cooler

Post by justin the subie »

I tried sniffing around through the forum first but....

good and or bad idea? im building the intake tubing and awic plumbing and just had a thought?

what if I ran the awic water through the oil cooler and thought what if I run it through the throttle body connection?

would it heat the intake more than normal? only after 300 hp or so. . it wont be a race car

tell me what you guys think.. thanks

Here's my thoughts:

The oil cooler would try to heat up the coolant to oil temperature, and the AWIC heat exchanger will attempt to fight that temperature change. I'd imagine you'd want your awic coolant far cooler than engine oil temp, but you definately don't want engine oil running cooler than proper operating temp.

The throttle body coolant lines are there to prevent freezing of the throttle body in cooler weather. Air passing through it has virtually no time to be heated up by the throttle body, due to how fast it's flowing. In warmer climates people actually bypass the throttle body.

These are my non-engineer opinions ;)

Thanks for the reply as I kept fighting my thoughts in my head. Prob the best if I left it alone. How about the idle air control valve. Would u want to bypass that as well as the tb?

Thanks for advising.

I bypassed my iac for a year or two. I dont recall noticing any advantages with it bypassed. With the coolant lines hooked up, first start of the day, it idles at 1500 a little less in time before the car jumps down to its 750 rpm warm idle.

I wouldn't recommend bypassing the IAC valve unless you have a problem that requires it.
