That pressure washer looks pretty cool. What kind of degreaser are you using?

Understandably, i am disappointed it's not a subaru pressure washer, despite all the cost analysis.

At first i read that as "my brother is a subaru pressure washer." Needless to say i was a bit confused.

I mean, it sort of made sense, but still...

So the shifter is really really sloppy. Here's what I have going -

-02-05 full WRX linkage
-Kartboy bushings & rear mount for that tranny
-Matching kartboy short shifter.
-brand new oem u-joint

I can almost do circles with the shifter lol! It will certainly go into gear, if I aim just right. But I don't have a positive feeling at all.

Had a similar feeling with the previous tranny, a 99/00 STI 5mt. The linkage & bushings were reused with both trannies, the u-joint and shifter is brand new to this one.

Whats the deal?

Yeah, without that spring there's going to be a ridiculous amount of slop.

Amount of play in gear with or without the spring should be identical. Now if you're talking in neutral, yes it will make a huge difference in finding the right gear.

Mike, I didn't know you had this problem with a completely different transmission as well. It's gotta be something in the linkage that's still loose and moving. If you could get someone to wiggle it while you're under the car watching, the problem may become evident.

iirc putting the sti short shifter on my ss, you have to swap the u joint because the older linkages used the spring and the newer ones didnt, that could be where the difference was.

Well I think I have it licked - I put a 3/4" fender washer between the two halves of bushing #12:

Image

as well as put a brand new oem spring in there.

It'll do.

Now I need to figure out what to do for my clutch situation.

I either need an 02-05 WRX clutch disc, or a sti 6mt pressure plate, before the engine can go in.

I had pressure washed a carpet I grabbed from the junkyard, and used the last few days of sunny weather to let it dry. I pulled the old carpet this evening - it was beyond disgusting. Turns out my ABS computer was unplugged - apparently the abs light won't come on if the computer isn't plugged in? Got in touch and previous owner said he did that to run sans-ABS. Needless to say I reinstalled it ;)

Image
After it dried I vacuumed it really, really well, and got even more dirt/sand from driver foot area. In person it looks all but brand new. I love my cheap-ass pressure washer!

Image
Side of the tranny tunnel. Sure looks like a bullet hole to me! But who would shoot from underneath a car?? LOL. It the exit hole is pointed straight towards the sunroof.

Image
Was wondering what these plugs on the passenger front floor are. I believe CJ is right that they're related to the auto tragic tomfoolery.

Image
Literally a pile of black interior waiting to go in. But first, I MUST fix non-working sunroof!

I'm taking a breather from the mechanical side of things and enjoying detail work and cleaning. Gonna look good when it runs :)

Missed your question Josh. I am using copious amounts of O'Reilly's engine degreaser, not the foaming kind. Like 4 cans for the engine and 2 for the tranny. I let it sit for 5-15 minutes.

I had to do this with my 5spd when I put the Kartboy bushings in. They are apparently just a tad narrower on the newer cars, so like you I used a big washer to take up the slack.

Yeah that cheap piece of metal sure made a huge difference in feel. I actually have a 3rd gen legacy shift linkage, and the shifter is a kartboy SS off a 2nd gen impreza. So I don't know what the discrepancy was.

The black e-brake handle I grabbed from a 93-94 uses a different style brake light switch. I attempted to drill matching holes so I could retrofit the original switch, but apparently Subaru makes the handle out of some very hard steel. Using my hand held drill, as well as a dremel, I made absolutely no headway. Cobalt tips didn't work either. So instead of buying a ton of new fancy bits, I'm gonna have a machine shop drill press make the 2 holes, since apparently I fail at doing that.

Ordered a stock 6mt pressure plate on ebay. Also, got the sunroof working! Damned bad switch ground.... now the Canadian headliner, manual black belts (replacing manual gray belts ;)) and black interior goes in.

I was hoping to have the SS running by now, but life got in the way. Also discovered that the clutch and flywheel I was intending on using was actually IN my RS. So, what am I do do but spend sunday nite pulling the RS's engine? ;) Last drive under naturally aspirated power.

Image
EWW, hadn't cleaned the engine bay since the last rally.

Looks like that'll be in the way of my downpipe. There's got to be a way to keep my cruise control.

And.. done! Off to bed.

Engine is in the car!

Image
I'd forgotten how low this suspension was.

Anyways, I put the engine in the car tonite. Discovered the N/A r134 condenser has the wrong fittings for my turbo r134 compressor. So I guess I gotta find a 94 SS/TW condensor.

My roomate guilted me into getting my injectors flow tested, so that's another week or two before I get to drive her. :(
