MAF Shield inside of MAF housing

I recently went to a cold air intake and used a WRX MAF housing adaptor. I screwed in one of the screws that lined up, then rtv'd the MAF into the WRX housing so it would be sealed. I noticed that the WRX housing didn't have the shield inside like ours does. Is that potentially an issue?
Car runs great btw and pulls harder.

So are you using a WRX MAF or you took the tlegacy MAF and put it in the WRX housing?
Is the inner diameter of WRX and turbo legacy MAF housing the same? If not then the MAF won't be reading the correct mass air flow. The screen is there to help provide smoother airflow arcross the MAF. It should still work without it.

Yes, I took the Legacy MAF Sensor and put it into a WRX MAF Housing. I dunno if the inner diameter is the same. Car seems to be running okay to me.

Would you mind checking to see if the inner diameter is the same or not?

Sure, just measure the hole?

Yup, just measure the hole and if there's any difference between the two.

So I haven't had time to measure but the WRX housing looks smaller. Since then I've been getting code 41 (A/F Learning) along with rough idle, and I'm willing to bet that is the reason. I ordered a cold air intake adapter for my original MAF, so that should eliminate my problem all together. I'll report back with solid results when I go back to my original housing.

Robert,
Thanks for the update. Make sure to clear the memory in the ECU once you've put your stock MAF housing back in.

Old housing is back on with an adaptor for a cone filter. Results are that there is no more CEL, or poor idle.
So guys... our MAF will only fit our housings!
