calling all swapped L's, turbo radiator??

Well after all this work swapping everything from my 92 tw into my 91L sedan, I've found that the lower rad support is different for turbo cars (sits 1 1/8" lower in turbo cars). Thus making the turbo rad sit to high in my swapped L.. I don't want to hack the nose of my pristine sedan, so what can one do?

I just asked this question and got a very good response from the group.

I used an N/A radiator in my white wagon i swapped for several years and drove the hell out of it. Did just fine.

I've seen those threads.. Has any one ever trimmed down a koyo or mishi turbo rad? Im fairly proficient with the tig... (Take 1 1/8" off the bottom)

My legacy turbo ran hot all summer, with a turbo rad. I'm scared to try a na rad.. I'd rather keep running hoodless (fmic anyways)

You may have another issue then.

No issues. I run a dual cam 2.2 w/td04. Its a fresh motor.. Never over heats but during the summer my rad fans cycle a lot, meaning the turbo rad barely keeps up.

Looks like I'm stuck welding in the turbo support for full sized turbo rad.

The lower radiator support itself is not the difference. it's the 2-4 plates tack welded on each side that are also welded to the frame rails.

Legacy777 ran an na radiator with his swapped car and a td05, in texas heat without issue. The SS cooling system is so overbuilt they used the same radiator on gc8 sti's, so I too believe there was some issue with your other.

Mine was even with a dohc conversion and 18lbs boost on a vf39 and a heavy foot everywhere, even in summer when it got really hot here in washington.

I think you're making a generalized incorrect statement about the turbo radiator and cooling fans cycling a lot. Just because the cooling fans cycle a lot does not mean the radiator is not able to provide adequate cooling. If you kick on the AC, which turns on the radiator fans and do not see the engine temps drop below 200 deg F, then yes I'd say the radiator is not providing adequate cooling, but I've watched the engine coolant temps in the summer with the non-turbo single row radiator and it cycled on and off just like it's supposed to. If you're sitting in traffic or not moving fast, yes the fans are going to cycle on and off more frequently. This behavior is by design.

+1+ for the NA radiator...ran it w/a Rob Tune, 525cc's, TD05, EJ25D heads (w/turbo cams) @ 19 psi on my '90 swap- no over heating issues when AutoX'd and during the summer heat - 90's.

I ended up swapping lower radiator support for turbo radiator. Was actually not bad the entire assembly can be installed as one unit..

Wish I would have taken some.. There are about 20 spot welds per side. I pulled the wings, lower and upper skins as one unit. Kinda looks like a mustache. Ill grab pics of donor next time I'm out at the tw

I believe the pieces are still avail from dealer. Don't quote me though

Just as a FYI for everyone here. The parts are no longer available from the dealer (I bought the
Last 2 sets in the USA)
