I have a 92 Legacy Turbo 5-speed. About a year ago, I was changing tranny fuid and found a little synchro keeper on my magnetic drain plug. It was not chewed up at all. Is this serious?

It is time for a clutch, so I want to deal with both problems at once.

What should I do? Will the tranny from a 99 Legacy GT just bolt right in? Should I buy new synchros as Pat Richard does? Where do I get synchros that are drilled or relieved? How much do they cost? Will a newer NA tranny accept my crazy pull-type clutch?

On the subject of clutch, I don't want a 4 puck racing clutch, I want a beefy street clutch. My son has an ACT street clutch on his Impreza and it is sweet. ACT wants $600 for a street clutch for my Legacy Turbo. That's a lot of money. With installation, I'm looking at damn near $600 for a clutch. Let's hear from someone on this.

I paid way less for the ACT clutch from Cobb Tuning, I think it was 380 or so complete (even a licence plate frame) I got a street disk and i am using it for ralling, works great. I probably will get the 6 puck next time. I did the install my self, took about 3 hours the first time I did it. I found out how to do it on Daves legacy site.
I would do the transmission syncro your self. I think the turbo transmission is the strongest.

Don't quote me on this but this is the set up in NZ.
The case will just bolt on to the existing mounts, the cases are
slightly different due to the clutch design. So you would just need
to take the case apart and swap cases.

I am not familiar with the later N/A gear boxes but the earlier ones
the gears are a lot smaller and WEAKER, so wouldn't recommend that
change.

Clutches there are different stages of the Paddle clutches, here is a
few designs 4 & 8 paddles, sprung and solid. The 8 paddled clutch is
not a harsh but still gives you great grip. My friends are using the
8 paddle system in their Group N Impreza rally car. It is so nice to
drive compared to 4 paddle systems I have driven in the past.

I have about the same setup that your son has. The ACT street
clutch,2.5 RS disc, 12lb Chromoly flywheel, 99 Legacy GT transmission,
STI mounts, STI shifter and short throw. This is Suby Heaven after 3
cars and 5 transmissions going crunch crunch and missing third. It
should all bolt in.
