case halve farts

Does anybody else notice when completely disassembling an EJ engine, that when taking the heads and case halves off, you hear a subie hissing fart fallowed by a sour old engine smell.

Its especially weird when taking the case halves apart, as the pistons, oil pan, and everything have been removed, yet their is still compressed subie fart gas stored somewhere. And it smells awful, my wife was like F* this sh*t I'm outta the garage.

It doesn't even matter if the engine sits for 5yrs, it still farts.

It is gasses stuck inside the bolt thread cavities for the head studs and block halves bolts. I'm guessing from deterioration of assembly lube/oils due to the heat cycles over the years.

I haven't noticed the sound or hissing, but Maciek is dead on for the explanation.

I've never taken case halves apart, but when I took the heads off the bolts smelled like bacon. Not like nasty bacon
Delicious bacon. Like, I seriously checked to see if my wife was making bacon. And it was definitely coming from the head bolts. I wonder if that'sthe early stages of the "subie fart".
