I came across a great deal on a low mileage EJ205d to replace the blown up EJ22 in my rhd 1993 Legacy Wagon and I am looking for any info you guys may have on what will be required for the swap. I searched on here and didn't come up with anything so hopefully someone can offer some insight.

Ej20d or ej25d? What year?

He told me EJ205D, but he did tell me the other day that its a 2.0 turbo.

Also, they have eight of them, so Im sure they are a range of different years. Is there a year that will work best for my needs?

So its a WRX EJ205? There's no easy way to make them work. The swaps I've seen involve a complete dash and wire harness swap to run the new style engine control system. Or you can use a standalone system. Either way is a lot of time and $,$$$.

Not the answer I was looking for, ugh. I do know that any more I get that wasn't available from the factory is going to be difficult, but is this specific motor harder than others for some reason?

I already know that probably whatever I get will require splicing the two harnesses together and some other things.

The easiest full Turbo swap is either from another 91-94 turbo Legacy, or an EJ20G swap from an overseas 89-93 Legacy or 93-96 WRX. These will at least work with the existing gauge cluster, very similar ECU pin outs, and all the sensors interchange. The stickies cover each one in depth. The USDM swap is the easiest of the bunch.

Ideally I would like to get an ej22t but I can't find one for a reasonable price and I feel weird paying a grand for a motor with 150k miles. Especially when I get get a warrantied motor with substantially less miles for $900 all day.

How much will it cost to install? What about all the pieces not included that are necessary to get it running. How about consumable items, such as belts, gaskets, hoses, plugs, etc. Tune? Quality ones aren't cheap.

I know iwire will merge harnesses for 650, but you have to send both your and the donor car's bulkhead wiring harnesses. How much for an ej205 bulkhead forward harness? I don't know if he messes with auto's. Perfect time to swap!

I'm not trying to dissuade you, but I can easily see this costing north of 3k just to get her started, if you do all the work yourself. Is that something you can do, and do you want to drop that kind of cash into this car? Do you have a backup car for the 3-6+ months the car will be down?

Once again, don't take this as me putting you down. Just providing things to think about. I just know from experience that these usually take a while to get running right, if they ever do. Plus they tend to cost double what you initially budget.

Lets me just add, I spent 1500 or so for a WRX swap and I still don't have all the parts.....

But that's because I spent alot of money to get my other SS running so I could have a daily driver.

I may have missed it but you could use just the block if your ej22 heads are ok. If it's indeed a turbo
Block the pistons will reduce your comp ratio. Maybe 8.5:1? And your MPG will go down.

I think I calc'd it for CJ at 8.6 with a 205 bottom end, 22t heads anda stock ej22t head gasket. You of course couldn't use a 22t gasket because of the coolant port pattern being different on 22e heads. With a stock 22e head gasket you'd be looking at 8.8:1

I found a motor! A local guy is selling an EJ22 longblock for dirt cheap. I am going to pick it up this week and more than likely rebuild it before I swap it into the car.

Next step is finding all the rebuild parts I will need.
