As the title states, i have a reverse light issues...

Here is what i have done.

swapped in a 5mt out of a 96 outback
swapped the neutral wire and reverse switches from my 01 impreza RS trans. Will be swapped in when i get time.

Though i made a good "plug in " harness for my car BUT that seems to NOT be the case.....


So here is what the car does.

If you put the car in ANY gear 1,2,3,4,5,R the reverse lights come on.
If you unplug the N or R switch from the harness i made the lights do not work at all.

I have checked out my power flow and it seems to me that pins 9 and 10 ( b15 )on my harness are for R.

One of those pins 9 or 10 has power. I would think that putting the car in R the power SHOULD flow through the switch to the lights? But it does not.


NOW here is another question!

I have a makeshift shifter linkage in my car.

13 sti linkage mixed with a 98 legacy GT mixed with a 13 WRX.

Now the car shifts fine in all and i can get all the gears no problem.

Could this have something to do with it?
Could it be because the switches are from a 01 impreza RS? They look the same and should work the same too?

you may have the two threaded switches in the wrong holes. Happened to me when I swapped out a speed on my brother in law's car. The transmission we picked up for the swap has nothing on it at all.

Black switch in the back...not sure what color plug, off the top of my head.

Although i have swapped the wiring around back and forth on both switches. Seems to work the same ....

Will check the switches Tho. and maybe take a pic of everything in its mess.......

Does not matter what i do for the wires, like vice versa and such.

They work the same way if i reverse the wires to each the switch......

Could it be related to the wires that must be depinned/ cut when doing a AT to MT swap?

Also where is what wires im using for the R and N switches on my trans harness.

SO

Grey connector on trans gets pins 9 and 10 of B15 AT harness

Brown connector on trans gets pins 1 and 4 of B15 AT harness


Seems right to me?

The black plugged switch is the neutral switch and rear most switch in the transmission.

The white plugged switch is the reverse switch and is the forward most switch in the transmission.

Make sure the wiring you are using is coming from the white plugged switch.

Will check and report on my findings about this matter.......

HA HA!!!

I figured it out!

Turns out i had problems!

One:
The actual N and R wires were crossed in my harness i made causing the lights to lights up in a gear.

Two:
The physical R switch in the trans was boned.
I took it out and "bench tested" it to see if it had continuity.
It did not....
So i swapped a switch in from an old wrx trans i had kicking around.

Now the lights work perfect!

So.

Note to self. Check if the physical switch is working!!!!!
