I have discovered the 91 Legacy wagons received a one off part # for the windshield wiper stalk. I believe the 91's may have had a rear intermittent wiper setting. I however have not been able to find a wiring diagram showing that rear intermittent wiper setting so I was wondering if anyone had a set of 91 factory service manuals with the Electrical section 6 book. If you have that book, would you mind scanning or taking a picture of the rear wiper wiring diagram?

do you have the 1992 liberty service manual it has section 6 in it?

Yes I have the 92 liberty manual. I looked there and didn't see any mention of the rear variable intermittent wiper.

Something is not right in that diagram.

There doesn't seem to be a wire for the "variable" part. Usually there is a dedicate wire to a variable resistor that controls the time delay.

The intermittent does have a dedicated wire to activate it, so I guess it could perform both functions.....

I found the intermittent controller its from a 2004 forester and its got a pigtail attached
I also have a 92 wagon wiper switch with the variable control for the front wipers

The diagram above is ONLY for the rear wiper. The rear wiper does not have a variable intermittent setting, only an intermittent setting.

Do you know if the intermittent controller is for the rear? Would you happen to have a wiring diagram for a 2004 Forester? If I have a diagram and it functions the same as the one in the 91, yeah I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Thanks, but I think I'm good right now. Mike and Kimo helped me out and got me the pages I need. Now I just need to find one of these controllers in the "wild" to see if I can retrofit it to my Impreza.

If I haven't found anything by the time I visit my folks in Seattle around Thanksgiving I may go junkyard searching since Subarus are much more plentiful up there.

Yay! I got myself a full rear intermittent rear wiper setup last year... I went to install it and found my JDM manual had no info on rear intermittent, despite nearly every JDM BF having them. I could not do it without the wiring diagram at all, due to the weird way the wiring logic works. So fucking glad I found this page, looks like my wee BC is getting intermittent! Chur.

any 2nd gen forester or 3rd gen legacy,outback with rear int wiper will have that controller unit pictured above.
I'll find the page with the wiring diagram and post it up here for both the legacy and forester just in case its different wire colors. if you save the pics you can zoom them up to a large size too

That's awesome work!! And a great new source for the rear intermittent wiper controller. The wiring on the newer Legacy controller is identical. The forester appears to be missing pin 4 on the controller, but not sure if it's a typo in the manual.

its the different switches, the 3 wire has only on/off with a delay for wiping instead of constantly running
the 4 wire has the int control option.
